hey

i plan to get the SE S700i at the end of next mounth.(can't wait 😁). i know this forum is for the SE S710a but as no1 but me has posted anything on the S700i forum since december and my question reffers to both phones anyway i thought id ask on here.

I'm just wondering... I plan to use my S700i (when i get it) as an MP3 player. both the S710a and the S700i suport memory stick DUO but not DUO PRO which comes in larger sizes of memory.

I wundered if anyone knows wether any larger than 128MB sizes of memory stick DUO cards plan to be made in the future or do the owners of these 2 awsome looking phones have to live with the maximum of 128MB DUO cards???

any info would be helpfull

thanks

Just 128. They aren't going to make them any bigger. I've found that I can fit about 7 songs on a 32 mb card @ 128kbps. At that compression ratio, it would end up being 28-30 on a 128mb card (2 to 3 albums). The phone won't take the place of your standalone mp3 player, but it is pretty cool that you can still take a fairly decent amount of music with you if you choose to. Also, I found that any mp3 on your phone can be used as a ringtone 🙂 Say goodbye to paying $3/ringtone!

ok thanks. still sounds kool!

another thing tho. you say you can put any MP3 on the phone or memory stick as your ringtone whcih soungs kool but i seem to spend more time txting and iv heard complaints from people saying that you can't set your MP3's as TXT message alerts. is this true??

oh yeah and how good is the sound quality and volume of the MP3's both through the headset and speakerphone?? I like my music loud and was dissapointed with the volume of my first CD player and that cost around £80. i really dont want another dissapointment but this time for a phone around £300.

thanks

I do a lot of txt msging too - I've got a feature add-on that allows 1500 msgs/month. Unfortunately, you are stuck with the 6 different factory-installed msg alert tones. I found one I like (#6). I see this as only a minor drawback. Of course, I knew this before the phone launched, as this is the case with every Sony Ericsson I've handled.

As for volume on mp3 playback... I haven't tried the headphones yet. I am quite impressed with the playback volume on the speakerphone. Considering the small size of the speaker, the thing really puts out. Just to give you an idea - I used to have to turn up the ringer volume all the way on my old Moto V220 to really make sure that I hear the thing. With this phone, on the SE volume scale of ...

thanks for the info BTW. i get some kind of idea about the sound now. i know not to expecxt the sound of a typical stand alone MP3 player but it sounds pretty good.

so about having MP3's as ringtones. this would be great but do you know if you can only start the song from the begining? sorry im being really picky now but it would be good for songs that say have quiet and long intro's but chorus's good for a ringtone. can you st...

I haven't done much with the video as of yet.

The mp3s being used as ringtones will play from the beginning. I'm not aware of any way to choose where they start from.

go to http://www.planetringtone.net There is a link to a utility you can download called the "Ringtone Ripper" that will enable you to make 15-20 sec clips from any mp3 for use as a ringtone. With this, you can choose at what point in the song the ringtone will begin. They want you to use this in conjunction with their pay svc to transfer the completed ringtone to your phone (which I have used for my v220 - it isn't a bad svc to use for a non BT, non flash mem phone ), but I think that with this phone you should be able to just transfer the mp3 clip to the memory st...
