LAPTOP Magazine says it only play low-fi 16kHz MP3's. Are they correct? See link...

i didn't read the article, because i know the s710a can play mp3's higher than that. in fact my current ringtone is a 192kbps file, so there ya go!

This is from page 57 of the owners manual:

"The following formats are supported by the media player: MP3, MP4, 3GP, WAV (maximum sample rate 16 kHz)."

LAPTOP magazine must have read this to mean all formats are limited to the 16 kHz sample rate. I believe Sony is trying to say only WAV files are limited, but it is confusing.

sorry about that, to be honest with you, i have no clue. i have 2 mp3 ringtones (one is a full song) before i bluetoothed them to my phone they were at a sample rate of 44, but on the phone i can only see the kbps. since i don't see any kind of converting, i can only assume that they are the same sample rate. no real difference in audio quality

If the phone had a limitation on MP3 sample rates, I doubt your file would have played. I really doubt the phone can reduce the sample rate to allow it to play. Thanks for your help. 🙂
