OK...this is hush hush, but here is what I did to be able to use the phone (a hacked Sprint Treo 650) and yet get the "official" phone once it is released.

I have purchased the phone once a month from PalmOne, and returned it around the thirtieth day (since they have a 30 day return policy). Rather than reinstalling all of the apps, I simply return the new phone they just sent me. When VZW releases its version, I will reset my original phone to be a Sprint phone, and get my $599 back, and then purchase it on Verizon for $399. I don't feel bad because I do intend on putting money in PalmOne's coffers as full as VZW releases the phone.

What you are doing may or may not be illegal, but it is unethical without a doubt. Too bad that PalmOne hasn't figured out that the serial numbers don't match.

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this phone, but I don't want it so badly that I am willing to violate my ethics or integrity.

Thats called an addiction. If you need to cheat the system every thirty days then just wait like everyone else till 5/23 when it releases to the general public. Whats your next move.........?

Ok, I have officially been chastized. Actually, I think I fell prey to the (misguided) perception that VZW's phone would be out "any day". Oh well, I guess I blew it a few months ago. This will all be over on May 23rd, when I purchase an actual phone I will keep.

Perfect timing for me, as my 2 year contract is just up. Now, what's the best way to snag one of the first batch? Line up outside the store at 6am? Pre-order or reserve anywhere? What's the best way to get my grubby little paws on one?

dude, its a phone, not a free cash giveaway. basically the only people that are going to be nuts and drop several hundred dollars on this are the people that can afford it.

there is a reason that verizon has 30 dollar phones 🙂
