I am considering Switching over to Verizon and if I do this will be the phone I choose. I was hearing several ppl have demo phones and have heard conflicting info about OBEX features and this phone.
I know VWZ crippled it in the 710 but i have heard reports that they will enable it for the E815. This doesn't fit with Verizon and there profit hungry web services, but i figured it might be possible.
I am already bummed about the los of analog and if OBEX is disabled still i will prolly stay with cingular and maybe go with the sony ericson S710. Having to do a seem edit and mess weith my phones programming doesn't sound like something I should have to put up wth to use my phone the way it is designed....

Thats completely your choice but there is a possible back door menu to this phone. Verizon has better coverage and all and this phone will be offered only through Verizon yes it is all digital but it will be a EVDO phone and will be able to carry broadband Internet speed capabilities and it will be a much better phone than the V710. Analog is becoming a part of the past real quick in the near future there will be no analog thats why everyone cell phone carrier has pcs and digital coverage and sells less tri-mode phones i don't totally agree with it I'm in Michigan and we still have some analog gaps but what do you get with analog? Battery drainage, dropped calls if you can even get the call, and if you do get the call its not very clear. ...

I do agree EVDO > Analog. I am willing to sacrifice the analog to get high speed internet.
My Main concern is how hard it will be to unlock the OBEX. Some webheads have referred to it as a "simple seem edit". I have no idea how to do that and really don't feel like I should have to dig around in my phones programming and risk messing something up, just so i can use the phone the way it was intendded. I like VWZ service, I like the design and features of the E815, I just hate how verizon gets greedy and expects u to pay 25 cents to send a single picture by crippling the Obex. They then have the nerve to say it is because of "Security" issues.

I know the only other way is by a transflash card but that can get a bit complicated if the person isn't within a few feet of you. They say its because of this license and that but look they are allowing transflash cards to be allowed in phones you can easily transfer music, games, wallpaper, screensavers, and much much more by a transflash card they aren't thinking with a full deck of cards but have they ever? I know people haven't ever said much about Alltel but they have some dang good coverage they just don't have that good of a phone selection. I was just up north in Michigan and i had voicemails left for me in Verizons "Extended Network on FRIDAY and i just got them today Monday morning at 7:00am work wasn't to happy to say the leas...

Yea I guess I could get around the obex diabling using a transflash card. The main thing is I want to be able to get custom MP3's to my phone for my ringer, and I want to sync with a PC for outlooks/phone book features. If I can do this I will be satisfied but I know these features were limited on the V710 somewhat.

Yea its a way around it I'm still trying to figure out how to use my transflash card its not as easy as it seems to format and use and you cant send files i don't think. I think you would actually have to take out your transflash card and load it into someone else's phone and than drag the files from there.
