quick questions about mp3 player in the e815....

Hi,

I have a couple of questions about the e815. Hope those of you who have bought and tried out this phone could let me know your opinions:

1) Do you think the built-in mp3 player is as good, or almost as good, as a regular mp3 player? I thought about buying a regular mp3 player, but my friend suggests that I buy a phone that has this feature (and I think it's a good idea too, as I don't want to have a cell phone in one shirt pocket and an mp3 player in the other 🙂 ). I plan to buy a stereo headset and a transflash card to use with this phone.

2) Do you know if the Motorola stereo headset made for the v710 would be compatible with this e815?

Thanks in advance 🙂

If your willing to deal with a limited amount of songs (128 mb card - about 30 songs, 256 mb card - about 60 songs, and 512 mb card - about 120 songs), you should be fine. Just remember that your battery will drain faster if you use the mp3 player a lot. I use to use the mp3 player on my old v710 and make phone calls, and still get a full day of use.

I'm not sure if the Motorola stereo headset for the v710 works on the e815 because my v710 headset was being replaced by Motorola after it got damaged when I bought the e815. VZW at Circuit City did throw in a Jabra stereo headset for the e815 with my purchase. I'm not sure if its the headset or the new phone, but I'm getting better and louder sound with the e815 over the v710.

Thanks TaZaR! Your response helps a lot. I only plan to use the mp3 once in a while (and probably not more than 1 or 2 hours each time). So, I guess it would work ok for me.

I have a couple more questions though, and I hope you could clarify:

1) You mentioned 512MB transflash card. Does this mean that this card will work ok with the phone? I thought they said "up to 256MB"?

2) Can you let me know the model of the BT stereo headset, which you said works pretty well with this phone?

Thanks,

To my knowlege there is no such thing as a 512 meg transflash card yet. The specs say up to 256 cuz that card just came out and is currently as big as they come.

I'd say if you really wanted a phone that's an mp3 player look at the Treo 650 which takes full-sized SD cards and so you could get up to a 2 gig card for mp3's.

Otherwise Motorola is coming out with an iTunes phone, maybe that'll have like a Compact Flash drive in it or something fun like that. I'm quite happy with my Rio Karma for now though and my E815 for cell phone calls and the like

This website says estimated shipment arrival of 512 mb transflash is July 11th.

This website says its compatible with all transflash mobile devices.

A friend of mine bought me the 256 mb version about 2 or 3 months ago. It worked perfectly with my v710. When I first began to use it, Moto's website said 128 mb was the limit. i'm guessing it should be the same for the 512 mb card. Just make sure you pay attention to return policys whereever you buy it, just in case.

As for the Jabra stereo headset that I have, I'm leagally blind ...

Thank you all! Your inputs have been helpful 🙂

It seems like this phone nicely fits my needs, so I'll get one when I have time. My #1 priority is reception, and no one has complained about this aspect of the phone. My #2 priority is a good mp3 player, and this phone has it too.

Something like the Treo is good too, but I don't really like PDA phones (too big, and too expensive 😉 I only use the phone to listen to music once in a while, so a 256MB card would be good enough. However, I think amazon.com lets people pre-order the 512MB card, so I guess I'll go for that one (it doesn't hurt to have more space than I need 😛 . Of course, I would need to make sure that it's returnable 🙂

Thanks again for your inputs.

I know it doesn't make any sense, but I've been getting better reception on my e815 than I did on my tri-band v710.

Go figure.

i just posted instructions on how to listen to mpes in the "tf card" string.

As far as headsets, the e815 doesn't support the stereo headset bluetooth profile, so forget about that.

I used to use the motorola stereo headset made for the v710 on my v710. That headset is in the shop, so I haven't tried to use it with the e815. I did get the vcast accessory pack that brings a jabra stereo headset. Not sure if its the new phone or the new headset, but the sound I'm getting now is louder and better as opposed to the v710 with motorola headset.

The motorola stereo headset costs anywhere between $20 and $35, depending where you get it. Verizon's accessory pack, which brings the Jabra stereo headset, costs $50.

Both headsets double for the mp3 player and phone calls. When your listening to the mp3 player, the phone automatically pauses the music when a call comes in and unpauses when the call ends.

Take note, I suspect that the motorola stereo headset should work with the e815, but I haven't tried it myself since mine is in the shop. It worked fine with the v710. You mi...

Take note, I although I suspect that the Motorola heaset should work fine, I have only used it on the v710 because my heaset is in the shop. You might want to ask someone else in the forum concerning this.
