sorry if this is kind of a newb question but could somebody please post a link that shows all of the areas that are currently covered by EVDO? This would be helpful in knowing if verizon loaded the wrong software in my phone or if I'm simply in the wrong area.

you can go to verizon's website Verizonwireless.com and it will list the 43 markets the V-Cast is in.

From my understanding they go hand in hand you need a EV-DO phone to use Verizon V-Cast. I could be wrong but thats how i understood it.

Yes, V-Cast is the Verizon branded service that runs over EV-DO. So in order to use v-cast you need to be in an EV-DO coverage area...aka the v-cast areas. Once they upgrade an area and enable EV-DO you could subscribe to v-cast...but for now those areas are only:
