Drain on battery by leaving bluetooth on all the time?
Does anyone know whether there is much added drain on the battery by leaving bluetooth on all the time instead of activating bluetooth during a call and then shutting it off at the end of the call? Which is the preferred method?

Certainly there is a drain on the phone. Bluetooth is always active and looking for a signal and that uses power. Just like a walkie talkie, if you leave it on, even if you don't talk on it, the battery will go down.
Also adjusting the backlight or the display to stay on longer will drain the battery faster. EVDO really puts a drain on the battery.
We want all these features, then complain that the battery doesn't last as long as the specs say it will! Hmmmmmm......wonder why? 😕

I leave my bluetooth "on" all the time, and I haven't noticed a difference. I've read else where that people felt that bluetooth didn't seem to noticeably impact battery life when it wasn't actually connected to anything. So if you just leave the setting on, but turn the headset off between calls, it's fine. If you leave your headset on and connected to the phone all the time, that might have an impact.

When I get into my car again, two key strokes turns it on and pairs it up again.
My point is, I assume your phone will work the same way with your Bluetooth headset, so that when you turn off your headset, your phone's Bluetooth will automatically time-out and shut itself off. I realize that it's then a couple of steps to perform ...
