Voicemail Problem !?!?!?!?

Yeti17

Ive been looking through this forum for a while a and i haven't seen anything on this, So maybe some one can help. I was attempting to check my voicemail on my e815 and i was able to get to the prompt where it asks for your password. I kept typing it in and i would recognize it. I tried calling from other phones and i was able to get to it without a problem. finally i figured out that my DTMF in my Initial Setup was off and i turned it on to short and i was able to get to my voice mail. My question is What is DTMF and and why can it not be off in order to dial my password for my voicemail?? Also is this a fluke in my phone or is this a problem that everyone has. Thanks ahead of time!

DTMF are the tones that your phone can send after you make a call. If it is off, then it doesn't send any! Makes sense doesn't i? 🙂

Tones can also be short or long, some equipment may require a long one, but most will take short, like activating your home security system or dialing into your computer.

All this is actually covered in the manual, page 70. 😉

That manual actually has a lot of good information in it! 😎

That's the problem with women, they DON'T come with instructions!

If they did, we could figure them out better and would get into a LOT less trouble with them! 😁

Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF) is the different tone that each key press sends across the wire to the other end. As jimspobox said, if they are off, then no tones are sent to the other end.

This seems like a really odd feature to turn off at the factory. What was Motorola thinking? People would just sing the tones to get their voicemail?

It's not turned off at the factory. The default is ON. You most likely set it to off when you were first playing with the phone without even knowing what it was. 😉 It happens!
