Question about keypad backlight

Mine doesn't come on every time. Any idea if I may have a setting changed somewhere that explains this?

If the phone senses enough light the keypad won't light up to save on battery power.
Take the phone in a dark room , see if the keys light up every time . Then try it in a lighted room (or under a lamp ) ,, The keypad should stay off ..
