I found this link in the E815 section of howardforums.com.

I live in the bay area and EVDO is in testing mode. The 1X and EVDO alternate often, thus draining batery quicker than normal.

I charged my phone last night and have talked approximately 2 hours since then, and I still have 2 bars left! The good thing is that I would normally be down to 1 bar by now. The two bars I have remaining occured after the two hours of talking, and have held steady for several hours. I will give an update within the next few days. Your results can be even better if you talk less! 🙂

Looks like the instructions were updated. You may want to use these steps. Not much of a difference.

Update to instructions to turn off EVDO

--------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

I just performed this procedure with some minor variation. I have a newer E815 with date code 2805 (fresh off the boat!). Updated instructions that worked on MY phone - YMMV, disclaimers, blah blah blah:

HOW TO TURN OFF EVDO:

PRESS menu 0 73887 *
code is 000000
scroll down to test mode
select "enable" for test mode

INSTAD OF: go back to the idle screen (press end button couple times)

DO THIS: press menu then the left soft key while still in enable/disable menu

now you will see a white screen wit...

Since I never use EVDO or mobile web, it would be nice to permanently kill it. Mine hunts a lot and I am in a full-blown EVDO area (Orange County, CA).

I was responding to the last line of the previous post where you said "[This hack may not survive power cycles - but hey who turns off their phone?]"

I turn off my phone every night, so I was wondering if the kill would survive reboots.

That's all!

I also turn mine off at night. No problems here with fix. 😁

I have a brand new e815 and this "new" way did not work for me. the method on HoFo works though. now time will tell if either method really works....with prolonging battery life that is 😁

Update on talk-time. Charged battery Thursday evening before going to bed. I got 3.22 hrs. talk-time before getting low battery warning this afternoon. That's a day and a half. It would have lasted another day or so if I spread out my talk-time. Still much better than before! 🙂
