how to disable EVDO and BT??

gic

A number of people have discussed the short battery life of the E815, and that this may be caused by EVDO and BT.

I'm still waiting for my phone to be shipped and I think I live in an area where EVDO is supported (Southern California). However, I have no plan of using Vcast or Bluetooth (I don't like that weird looking thing hanging on my ear 🤣 ). So, please allow me a couple of questions:

1) Can you disable these two features if you don't plan to use them?

2) If you can disable them, does the manual show how to do this? If it doesn't, I would appreciate it if some kind person could tell me how to do it 🙂

Thanks in advance.

As far as Bluetooth goes, you don't need to disable it, it is off unless you turn it on and pair a headset with it. As far as EVDO, I did see on here a way to do it using "menu 0", but didn't pay too much attention to it as I don't have EVDO in my area anyway, but it is on here.

Thanks for the info about BT. With regard to EVDO, does anyone here know something about it and be willing to share the "how to turn it off "?? Your help is appreciated 🙂

Also, it's great if someone could clarify this: I'm not sure if there's a real different between EVDO and Vcast. I think EVDO refers to the speed of data transfering and Vcast refers to the broadcasting of news or music clips, but I'm not sure about this at all 🤭 . If I live in an area where Vcast is available but have no plan of using it, would this hurt the battery life if I just leave the phone in their default settings? Or if I don't plan to use Vcast or EVDO, I should really disable this feature to save battery life?

Thanks a lot 🙂

You are right about the EVDO and VCAST (uses). Like Bluetooth, you don't need to disable VCAST, but hopefully someone will post how to disable the EVDO for ya.

Thanks very much for the clarification again. Yes, I hope someone will provide the "how to". Otherwise, I hope the phone (perhaps on its way to me now) will not drain battery too much even with its default settings 😉

Yeah, that's where I got it from. The original poster was having trouble finding the info, so I re-posted for him. Thanks so much.

I have EVDO in my area and do not sucscribe to it, but one thing I have noticed with it still enabled on my phone, is that I get better battery life. When I am in my home area it always shows a EV next to the signal bar instead of the 1x and I can go 3 to 4 days of normal phone use without having to recharge the phone. When I travel and go to an area without EVDO it shows a 1x next to the signal bar and I can only go about 2 days without charging the phone. You may want to just leave it enabled and see if you get better battery life like I do.

Think about it. If you are in a non-EVDO area, the only way the phone will know that is if it keeps searching for EVDO and cannot find it, and it leaves the 1X icon on your screen. That is why you get better battery life at home: because the phone looks for EVDO, finds it, and stops searching. When you are in a non-EVDO area, the phone keeps looking for EVDO and drains the battery because it is not there to be found, but the phone does not know, so it keeps looking.

At least, that's how I see it.

alright i went through the steps to disable my ev. but when i got the the step to "press menu and soft left key" i would do that and nothing would happen. but a few hours later i plugged my phone up to charge and it went the white screen with blue letters. so i finished changing my auto to cdma, but i cant get out of this white screen. i pull the battery out to try to get it to reset but as soon as i turn my phone back on its back to the white screen. every now and then it flashes back to the normal screen but only for a few seconds, then it goes back to the white screen with blue letters. someone please help me with this.
thank you

Your predicament is exactly why you should not do unauthorized modification to your phone if you really are not sure of what your are doing! 😕

Doing this and Seem Edit improperly have really ruined a lot of phones! 😢

Your best bet is to take it back to Verizon and see if they can reload the firmware and fix it. Don't be surprised if they charge you for the unauthorized mod you tired.

If you want to disable EVDO after it is fixed or with a new phone, let Verizon do it, they know how! 😁 And if it gets screwed up, it's on them, not you! 🤣

Don't listen to "jimspobox".

It sounds like it's stuck in test mode. Turn off the phone, restart it, then when that white screen with blue letters shows up, press the menu key then the left soft key, and it should return you to your normal phone screen.

Somehow you must have turned test mode on, and when it's on it pops up automatically whenever you turn your phone on (for some reason). If you don't want it to do that, you'll have to turn test mode off...although I'm to lazy to look up how to do it myself right now, I know it's around here...

Good luck.

Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions, especially to Many424 for finding the info for me. I did search for it, but was not successful 🤭

According to Verizon website, broadband access and VCAST are supported in my home area and many adjacent counties, so hopefully I won't have to disable EVDO to save battery life when I get my phone (it takes forever for amazon to ship it 😡 ). If I have battery problems, I may try to disable EVDO (although I have to say that it's a bit scary to mess with the phone 😕 )

Just one more thing about forums like this: GREAT! I used to get a lot of help from a digital photography forum, and now I get help from here too. It's good to know that plenty of helpful people are still out there 🙂

goto this page and scroll down and you will see directions how to disable the EVDO setting. This does weaken the battery, because it is on a strong network signal. Whether it is constantly switching between 1X and EVDO or constantly in EVDO. My battery would only last two days before I made the modifications. Now I get 4 to 5 days.
