External Display backlight/color when flip closed?

I was wondering if it is possible to have the external display background color change from extremely dark blue (very difficult to read) to a sky blue or some other color that will allow me to see the time a bit better when the flip is closed?

I also wonder this. After 10 seconds I cannot see the time at all.

that is how it saves battery for the e815 and kills for the 8100.
