Ok so I have had the 8100 for over a month now. I am now on my 2nd exchange, possibly going on a 3rd. I really like this phone but am thinking of exchanging it for the 815 due to problems I'm having w/it.

My first exchange was due to volume fluctuation and my pix/video disappearing. I never had issues with reception until just this week. For some reason I am getting intermittent service where I live and am dropping calls left and right. Really odd because it's only happening in the last 3 days. I was told my cust srvc that I could exchange for another 8100 or a comparable phone, of which I would only think is the 815. The 8100 is supposed to have a software upgrade coming out soon in my area (already out in other parts of U.S.) tha...

"3) How easy is it to make your own ringtones on this phone? Do you have to use any program like bitpim (w/8100) or can you record your own sounds and save them as ringtones? I currently use www.mp3ringtones4u.com and upload them w/bitpim to my phone. I've also used funmobile.com and sent them as pix messages but they get saved in my sounds and I can't transfer them as ringtones."

It's a lot easier on this phone-- I traded in an 8000 (which allowed you to save your own ringtones) for the 8100 (which didn't- one of the reasons I didn't like the phone) and then to the E815. What I do is get a clip from wal-mart or someplace, save it to my computer, send it through to my phone using vzwpix and then save/assign them. I think its a lot better...

That's awesome...definitely a feature I like. Thanks for the input. I called a cust service rep this morning and they are going to send technicians out to check out what's going on w/service in this area. They think it may be a digital service issue and not a phone issue. The 8100 is all digital as opposed to my other cell phone which is tri-mode which works fine. I'm supposed to get a call within 24 hours so I guess we'll see what happens.

In the meantime I will be doing more research on the 815.

I had the 8100 as well and starting having the exact same problem you had. Started dropping calls left and right. Would look at the signal strength and it would be going from 3 bars to none. Very frustrating. Trying the 815 now and have not lost a call yet. The signal is amazing. I went to an area were I had no service with the 8100 and the 815 was able to make and receive calls. Amazing. As far as your questions I was wondering the same things. I have not had it long enough to test those things. All I know is that the 815 is better for phone purposes but the lg has a better outer screen and the mp3 player with the update looks great. Also waiting to see if that update increases the signal strength on the 8100. If not I might have to stick ...

Good to know I'm not alone out there. I'm just waiting to hear back from the tech to see if it is a digital service issue I'm having.

I do also like the external screen on the 8100 but I could live the 815's screen too. I also like that i can have different wallpapers on the internal/external screen on the 8100 but have to have the same wallpaper on the 815 (unless someone knows different?)

My brother just got the 815 recently and I am going to pester him with questions about it too. I love the features/look/size of 8100 but dropped calls is something I just cannot tolerate.

Your welcome. The 8100 does have the better screen and I do miss being able to have different pics on both screens and you could also have your video set as your screen on the 8100. Something that was neet but a little hard on the battery. The picture ID is also better on the 8100 and being able to check messages on the outer screen was sweet. Those are the things that stood out to me as being better on the lg. The new mp3 player also looks cool but I have not experienced it first hand. The Moto has a lot more options for customizing the phone like different skins, lot better ringtones, and being able to make the shortcut keys whatever you want is great. The internal screen on it is just as good if not better than the lg. Speakerphone is bet...

I will definitely keep you posted. Questions though, what do you mean about the pic ID is better on the 8100? Doesn't the 815 have this feature also? And I do like the 815 internal screen because it is larger, which is great for Vcast but i don't use that. Also, do you have any problems downloading wallpapers on the 851? And how long did you have the 8100 and how many exchanged did you go through?

The 815 does have pic id but the picture that shows up is not the size of the full outer screen. It is a smaller pic which is ok but nothing great. The 8100 covered the entire outer screen with was really nice plus the outer screen was just better. I have not downloaded any wallpapers onto the phone. Dont do that much, I usually just use pictures I have taken which look nice if the screen setting is set to center on screen and not fit to screen. I had the 8100 for about 3 to 4 weeks. Never exchanged it . I do know others who have exchanged it and they stuck with the 8100. Dont seem to be haveing the dropped calls issue like i did, just dropped a few calls,so I am not sure if is was just my phone or not. Thats why i am still debating betwe...

HEy all,
I was a 8100 user. Actaully I was trying to decide between the 8100 and the 815. Let me tell you the 815 is awsome!!! It really has much better battery life, signal strengh, and most importantly the voice commands work much better and you can get to alot more things thru the voice commands. I'm also using the bluetooth headset Jabra and THAT ALSO works much better. Trade in for the 815 you won't regret it!

I must agree the voice commands and what you can look up through voice commands are better on the 815.

I do now others who still have the 8100 and has exchanged it before and has only lost a few calls. nothing like what i was experiencing so I am not sure if it was just my phone or what. that is why i am having a hard time deciding between the two.

I don't know if you already found a memory card but I found a website that has the 512 cards. http://blueheadsets.zoovy.com/ I hope this will help you. Good Luck 😁

This is a new storage medium.

New + Small = Expensive.

Try comparing size and pricing of CF cards to SD cards to miniSD cards.

CF is a bargain. Of course phones would look more like the old Moto Drug Dealers Special.

Just wait a while and the prices will drop. It may take longer because not as many devices use TF, compared to the PDAs and camera that use SD.

It costs money to be on the bleeding edge.
