Motorola E815 / E816 Hollywood
Contact lists, once and for all....
From what I have read..........
...Verizon took away the ability to sync the E815 with your PC either via BT or USB so you don't have the ability to transfer your contact list (phone book) to and from a PC for easy editing.
So is this true? Can you buy a USB cable and use the Phonetools program to enter in contact numbers? Or is there another program that you can get to make this work?
Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks

NOT TRUE! đ
Don't know where you got the conflicting information! We have always said your phone book can be synced and edited with y...

Actually, mobile phone tools for the 815 is sold through verizon for $40 (including the cable).
You might check, but I think the Verizon Mobile Phone Tools is TOTALLY different than the Motorola Phone Tools program.
The Motorola software will sync BOTH the phone book and scheduler. The Verizon will only do the phone book!
Verizon is actually the only place you can officially buy mobile phone tools (you can't buy it off the motorola website by finding the accessories for the 815, I tried).
I bought mobile phone tools through verizon, and I back up both my phonebook and my calendar. (when I first got it, I back up my both, then erased it from my phone, then restored it just to be sure.)
You're probably thinking of verizon's "Mobile Office Kit", which doesn't back up the scheduler, but I don't think verizon even sells a mobile office kit for the e815.
I will check out the verizon store online and others I have seen, also with my local store to see if they have it instock.
Its great news that I can sync enter/edit phone numbers on my computer and then transfer them to my phone using the Phone Tools program, Outlook, etc.
It only takes a few minutes and works well. Some will do it for FREE but others may charge a small fee.
But it sure beats entering all those numbers by hand! đ

Don't forget that the there is a easy way to just transfer the numbers.....just have a Verizon or Circuit City store do it for you! đ

True, but how secure is it? I have some rather "private" phone numbers that I am sure that the owners don't want them to be given out.

I honestly don't think Verizon or Circuit City is interested in taking your phone numbers.... đ
You roll your eyes but I have some "important" numbers and the people dont them given out.

Your right, when you choose the 815 there is no Mobile Phone Tools kit for it, but if you choose the 710 you can get it....will the kit for the 710 work with the 815?

I have read where some have used it and it works, but you can only sync phone book and not the scheduler.
So I would not recommend it. Go for the MPT instead. Be careful when ordering though because it may not come with a USB cable, which you will need.
Having Verizon transfer the numbers is simple and secure. The numbers or names are not seen by them nor transfered to any of their equipment. It just transfers between phones.

Just fyi - if you order Mobile Phone Tools through verizon, it definitely comes with the cable. If you order from ebay...well, look closely.
I guess thats what I meant; when I looked on the accessories section of Verizon it did not show a USB cable and MPT software for the 815, it only showed it for the 710 model... âšī¸
Why oh why can't verizon keep their website in decent shape?
If you want it, I would recommend calling customer service and ordering mobile phone tools. I know verizon sells it for the e815 - that's where I got mine.

I just looked at the verizon site, and I didn't see mobile phone tools listed under accessories for the e815 either. Weird. And when I log in to "My Account", I get "No Image Available" for my phone, and no "Buy Accessories" link.

Thanks, they must be having issues...I ordered new service on Sunday; they said it would take 5 days to arrive, its been five days and nothing yet....so maybe they are having some computer system troubles.

I'm still unclear on this. Is it possible to synchronize Outlook or Palm contacts from a PC to this phone? If yes, are you constr...

Or you can get it off the Internet. Not sure what is meant about Verizon being the only "official" place you can get it. But here is a link for MTP for $24.95 on sale, includes software and cable:

The site list what it will sync to. Not sure if it will sync to the Palm, never tried it. But if the Palm is running one of the software packages listed, can load the driver for the 815 from a CD and can accept a USB cable, it is worth a try. đ
But I doubt it! âšī¸

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
BTW, the website referenced for Mobile Phone Tools (MFT) does NOT list the E815 as one of the phones that the MPT software is compatible with. This agrees with what someone in Motorola tech support told me yesterday. He said that Verizon told Motorola to cripple (my word) the E815 so that it would not work with the MPT software.
Yesterday, a Verizon rep told me that the E815 couldn't be used with their Mobile Office Kit yet but would be in the "future". I just spoke to customer service at Verizon this morning and asked when Verizon planned to make the...

I think it has been covered extensively that MPT does indeed work on the 815 and can sync the contacts and the scheduler. MPT stands for "Mobile Phone Tools". đ The long version of the name is actually Motorola Mobile Phone Tools.
The Verizon Office Kit is NOT MPT!!!! đ (Notice the letters do not match up "VOK") VOK has been reported to sync Contacts but not the scheduler, so why even buy it or discuss it? đ If Verizon says it doesn't work (even if it does) then forget about it! Buy the one that DOES work! đ
