do you need to have an ISP (not verizon) to use DUN?

I was considering enabling DUN on my e815, but i do not pay for any dial-up service. When anybody uses DUN, does it automagically use verizon's broadband access system, or do you have to place a call to an ISP to get internet access?

I realize that this is probably a dumb question, but then, we are talking about free internet access. It seems that everybody that talks about this topic makes no mention of how the process connects you to an ISP, DNS server, TCP/IP, and whatever other internet communication protocols you need to actually download a simple file.

As I understand it, no, you don't have to have an isp. In fact, I don't think you can even use a different isp.
