Why by the 8100...Honestly???
Ok, just curious, i have read the other threads but am between the 8000/8100. Other than size why buy the 8100? The BT will be crippled right? And from what I hear BT is static filled with the headsets cuz it is "new" technology. The SD card will be crippled so you can't put your pics on the computer. Why pay the extra money?
Right now I have the vx4400 and NEED to get 2 new phones asap....is it worth the cost and time to wait for the 8100??? Is there a date that someone knows but hasn't said for release? ANY help is appreciated, my fiance and I are in dier need of a new phone but don't want to make the wrong choice.

Um, I'm not sure where you're hearing this about the BT connection being staticky. I've used bluetooth headsets with over 3 phones and never once have I heard any static. I'd seriously doubt a brand new phone like the 8100 has staticky bluetooth.
Also as for bluetooth being 'crippled' it depends how much you care about being able to transfer files and pictures to the computer over bluetooth. If you really consider this crippling, then I suppose so. But really in my opinion, people have overblown this issue. Also, along with having expandable memory, the headset will have 512MB memory built in, more than any phone I've ever seen.

Yeah I agree with you on the bluetooth thing. It would be great if it didn't have to crippled. LG makes a great phone. Easy to navigate through. I have had three LG phones and my wife chose a Samsung last time and I made her get an LG and she is so happy now. Just my opinion.

I'm guessing they will probably just flat out discontinue the 8000 at the point when the 8100 comes out, much like they did with the VX6000 and VX6100. There will be absolutely no reason to buy an 8000 once the 8100 comes out.
Also, if they were planning to drop the price they likely would have already. VZW dropped the price on the v710 and the e815 is much farther off than the 8100 is. The v710 and the e815 are different enough that keeping them both on the lineup is a viable business decision, whereas the 8100 is a replacement for the 8000.

I say if a phone's gonna have a camera it should take photos that are acceptable. The only phone I have seen from Verizon that meets this is the 8000. I know the 8100 won't take photos as well as the 8000, but I wonder what they'll look like.

No it's not likely the phone will take as nice of photos as the 8000, but just a better camera is no reason for VZW to keep the 8000 around. It's been said before and I'll say it again, you don't buy a cell phone expecting it to be a digital camera.

Some of the best digital cameras (all of Canon highend) use CMOS rather than CCD...so is that really a factor? Or is it because it's in a cell phone that CCD is better? Don't know, just asking. Thanks!

Yes... I am aware of these few High End Cannons... But the jury is still out on the fixed noise problem with the CMOS sensors used...
These are the cameras that are the "exceptions that prove the rule"...
For now CCD still rules for high quality imaging... CMOS will eventually overtake CCD... but not yet...

Well, for one, I own a Nikon D2X, CMOS Sensor, 12.4 MP....Nikon's flagship camera (I'm a professional photographer). For another, the Canon 1DS MKII 16 MP camera is a CMOS. So....what's your gripe with CMOS?

There is a huge variation in CMOS sensor quality. Older ones are absolutely terrible. Newer components are better, and some of the newest-generation CMOS sensors for phones rival CCD quality.
But there are still plenty of low-quality CMOS modules being put in camera phones, so CMOS has a reputation for low-quality.
CCD sensors, on the other hand, almost always provide relatively good quality, and they have a reputation to match.

You are in denial that the cellphone and digital camera are the perfect combo: You carry the phone everywhere, so why carry a separate camera? i haven't heard any complaints on the 710 with moto headset combo as far as clarity
just the whiners on this board about the 'crippled' bluetooth ...you know...so you can't get bluetooth virus' from other not so nice people

Are you really saying that before cameras were included with cell phones that you carried a camera with you everywhere you go???? Perhaps this is true for some people but my point was that if you lifestyle was that dependent on a camera before, then perhaps you should just continue to carry a separate camera and stop complaining about the quality of the pictures.
I also carry a wallet everywhere I go...should they make a cellphone that can carry money and hold my credit cards?

I remember a time not so long ago when I never heard of a fax. Radio phones were for the rich - in their cars only. Polaroid made cameras with instant pictures and they were not the greatest. Movies were taken with wind up cameras. Then you could lug a giant camera with you. I cannot imagine a day without a computer or email.
I forsee a day when we will have our money in our phone, camera, video, fax, email, portable computer. What we don't have now we may "need" in a few years.
Once when my wife was not feeling well after having a baby, I did some furniture shopping. I took some Polaroids and brought them home and we made our decision. Now I can take video, send it in an email and discuss it.

My meaning is that I think that the convergence of portable electronic devices is the wave of the future.
Maybe it is because I am a product of the Lost in Space, Star Trek and late night reruns of the 50's science fiction genre.
My folding phone is a direct result of the original Captain Kirk communicators. My PDA is running a rudimentary version of Windows but is not quite up to speed. I have an MP3 player that I can put songs in but I cannot share them between my MP3 capable PDA or V710 phone. I have a camera with a SD card but the camcorder can't take high resouluton pictures. The phone can take videos as can the camera as can the camcorder but none are compatible with the others.

Just because you carry your phone everywhere doesn't mean you WANT to carry a camera everywhere. I only want my camera on vacation. I need my phone at work and travelling to/from work. But since work doesn't allow cameras (AND camera phones) that really limits my phone selection. I want bluetooth purely for the headset option to get rid of the cord, but I can't find a bluetooth phone anywhere that doesn't include a camera.

8000 - Bigger phone, not the latest technology. NON Working MP3 Player, 64megs, Camera is a plus but not the best. Makes a buzzing sound at high volume.
8100 - More the size of the 6000 (little thicker), WORKING MP3 player, 512megs, built in MiniSD Slot!, Screen size same is 8000, may be hindered camera (but how do we know yet, its not even out)
Anyways the biggest plus to me is the Memory + Expansion slot and the working MP3 Player.. I have a Sony T1 Digital that fits in my pocket if i want good pictures, i use my camera on the cell phone for those pictures i dont care to much about quality.
