8000 NOT overstocked!

I know what your saying does make sense, that they would hold off to release this phone until the was sold out. But we've been out of it for a week or so. Our distribution center has less then 400 left. And it would be LG's call on how many were made. Since they knew the 8100 was coming out this summer, they didn't make as many as usual. LG doesn't overstock, they understock way more often.

It's not only the 8000. What about the 7000, 6100. And why in hell come out with the 3300 and the 4650? You don't make money on something people don't want. They will wind up getting stuck with these too. Reading all the threads, people are looking for the latest up-to-date phones, weather it is the 8100 ore something equivalent. Look at Cingular, as bad as they are. They're smart enough to give you a variety. That's good marketing sense. Little-by-little, they are cutting into VZW. If they improve on CS, they will hurt VZW a lot more.

The only way for any phone company to make any money, is to produce a phone in each category so that they don't limit the market to one type of buyer. There are plenty of people who want a basic phone, a cheap phone, a speaker phone....for example the 4650 is the best phone for someone who doesn't want a camera (those customers do exist, more than you'd think). Some company's won't allow there employees to have camera phones. And some people just want a phone to be a phone! LG is very smart in having a variety of phones to offer so they appeal to a much bigger market. And the 7000 and 6100 are in a different tier, so they don't count.

the 7000's are completly out. However 64,000+ on the 6100. But the phone isn't in the same category as the 8100 so if your estimating the release of the 8100 by that info, it would be out within in next few weeks as well.

verizongirl's right here. keep in mind the people on this site comprise a very small portion of overall buyers. i'd say at least 90% of buyers just walk into a store and ask a sales rep what they recommend. 4650's a pretty tight little phone if you ask me. most people don't want to spend 200 some bucks on a phone they barely use.

Good thinking. But VZW is hurting. They're not selling. I am in the North East. Don't know how it is out there, but all major TV & radio stations are constantly running commercials offering freebees. Seriously, you can't watch a program without a VZW commercial. When you advertise like that, you're in trouble. They dropped a bundle on the PTT market. Expected to cut into Nextel but that hasn't happened. Don't know why because their CS and phones suck. BT has become a big commodity. Cars, computers, phones. People are in big demand for it. They need to produce what the public wants, even in cheaper priced phones.

i completely agree on the BT comment. we need more options. i am in the north east region by the way. i'd have to disagree on the freebees comment though. try getting a free phone direct from verizon as a new customer. doesn't happen. some of the indirect channels will offer it but i don't think that reflects how will verizon is doing as a whole. the shift with PTT was bound to be slow. incompatibility with nextel makes it a real uphill climb in that segment. plus i don't think we've effectively marketed that. i really don't see any adds for it. all i see lately is the unlimited in text/pix commercials.

I don't know if I agree that advertising means they are hurting. It costs alot of money to advertise. However I do agree that PTT hasn't made as much revenue as hoped. But I saw that coming after the last time they launched it. But about the BT comment, he phones are more expensive because Verizon pays alot more for them then you think. Verizon pays the full retail price and discounts them based on contracts. Verizon doesn't make money on the phone, they make all of there revenue off of Acc. priceplans, and any extras like txt/pix basicly any data. That is why they advertise IN messaging, because it's 99.9% profit, who wouldn't try to sell that.

Working for them, I guess you know better than I do. I know BT is very expensive, but in today's world BT to a phone is like the internet to a computer. It's in everything. All I can say, VZW better wake up. Sooner or later, we will get tired of being screwed around and stray. A lot of my associates have jumped to Cingular, Bad CS and support but all say good reception - all have BT. Always had VZW myself. Last 3 phones, all LG, but lately a lot of dropped calls. Might have to jump to the MOTO e815 as much as I hate their menus and screens.

not everyone wants bluetooth. when a company is hurting, they find out why they are sucking and they change their marketing stratagy or prices or change the products that they offer. That is how good companies stay open.

I agree about the PTT stuff. I think the problem is that they only offer very regular phones with the feature and that you have to have a push to talk plan when you buy the phone. When sprint started theirs they didn't know that they were going to buy nextel, but all their ptt phones were cool phones with other features and also they didn't have to get a ptt plan if they didn't want to. I know a lot of the sanyo's sold like crazy!

I don't understand what the big deal is about ptt. If I want to talk to someone I will call them. A walkie talkie is old technology and if Nextell did not push it so much, I don't think people would go for it so much. People think they are saving money since it is free to other Nextell customer's, but I can just as easily call another Verizon customer and that's a free call also.
As far as having phones with only a few features like the LG 4650, I work for VZW and that's a hot little phone right now. Most people don't care about a camera or bluetoothe and a phone with a really nice speaker and easy menu is just what they are looking for.

As far as verizon hurting i can't see that at all. Every store in my region is posting record sales for this time of year. I know our store is way up. As far as the phones go, we sell far more 3200 than any other phone, there are a lot of people that jsut want a basic phone out there and don't care about all that other crap on them. I love my 8000 and can't waite for the 8100, but i don't push them on people, especially old people that don't even know what a text message is 😁 Verizon is spending so much on advertising to get their data percentages up because it raises their average profit per customer, that figuere dropped a little when they started the 9.99 share lines and they are trying to make up that lost profit in data sales, but tr...
