Don't see why they would hold off on the sale of the phone while we wait for the service. Why not sell the phone now so we can buy the tunes later?
Maybe this is timed not only to pre-empt Apple's introduction (expected next week) but because the sale of the 8100 is expected next week. They'll be selling the 8100 as the "iPod phone" right off the bat.

🤣 🤣 🤣 Great news. Sounds like the 27th of July might come true. Expected a VZW music service of some kind but pissed about the MOTO/Apple deal, especially since I'm a MAC user. Wonder if the phone is going to VZW. Doesn't say.

maybe this is an insider trade knowledge, i.e. official public announcement vs. when it will actually be available at the stores. has this happened before, when a company issues a press release of a date which differs from the actually release of a phone?

Well, me being the type of person I am, called a store in Bedminster, NJ (where the article said the phone was being sold now). I went to Verizon Wireless and Store Locater and Bedminster, NJ. Came up with a bunch of stores, I called the first one on the list: 908-203-8484. They said "No" the phone wasn't being sold yet and that 😲 hold your breath, you'll never guess 😲 it hadn't been released yet. So I don't know what's up with that article. Oh well. We'll get it when it comes out. It will be out sooner or later.

It is a modified version. The 8100 is not out there it doesnt say it is.

a few things,
the reason they mentioned bedminster new jersey is cause that's where vzw's headquarters is. they don't mean the local store.
the 8100 is a modified version of the 8000. just like the 6100 is a modified version of the 6000.
also, remember v-cast??? the 8000 was ready for launch somewhere around october of 2004 but wasn't released till feb 2005 because it was released to coincide with v-cast service availability.
i've heard rumblings of this music service internally for months, but never had any solid info to post. sounds like they're gonna do it. i'm still wondering if it's gonna be like a streaming audio thing or downloadable. any thoughts?
