this may be a common knowledge question, but does anyone know if there is an adaptor so that i can use my high end sony headphones to listen to mp3's on the phone instead of the oem stereo/headsets they sell separately???

There are adapters for all types of audio jacks. i never say this, but visit your local radioshack after buying the phone from corporate vzw.

This one should work for the 8100 or any phone with a standard jack:

They also sell the same one here in addition to the above one:

I have the MPxAA ($27.40) which works with my Moto V710, though you have to pull the stereo headphones plug almost all the way out to get stereo sound, and the on/off button and mic don't work so you have to pull it out to answer a call. The items on this site ship from Hong Kong so expect at least 10 days for shipping.

Any aftermarket accessories are to be used VERY cautiously. Most non OEM stuff I've both seen and sold is not very good quality. Radio Shack makes good electronic stuff but their cellular accessories (batteries, headsets, car/home chargers) leave much to be desired. Also remember: If you have a warranty issue due to aftermarkey accessories, anyone who feels like being super strict can bounce your warranty, including LG. I've seen it happen many times.

I can't vouch for RS since I haven't used their cell accessories. The adapter I noted above sold by PC-Mobile is pretty good quality, I have had mine for a year and used it many times and it has held up well.

azvzagent makes a good point about the warranty, however I haven't heard of too many people damaging the headset jacks on their phones, which would be the only risk
