Wow, am I eating crow. Due to some feedback I received about my earlier post yesterday regarding the voice recognition software on the LG VX 8100, I decided to take a trip to a different Verizon Wireless store to see if I could re-check out this feature on the phone.
As luck would have it, the Sequoia store in SW Portland, Oregon not only had the LG VX 8100's to "look at", but were also selling them as well due to being completely sold out of the VX 8000. After an hour of testing the phone, I can assuredly tell you that it indeed DOES have speaker independent voice recognition software. What this means is that you do NOT have to record your own voice dials; the internal program matches your voice automatically when you want to call s...

Thank you for the time and effort you put into your response. I'm sold. I'll try to get mine tomorrow.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate everyone's efforts and opinions.
Thanks,

I'm a soon to be first-time mobile phone buyer/contract signee and when researching what would be the best fit for me, I found this forum and have been following the 8100 and e815 ever since. This review is the single best post I've read in the past month of following and I wanna thank supersonic profusely for doing the dirty work to make my choice easier! Objective, detailed, why can't everyone post like this?! I was leaning towards the 815 after the past couple of days, but now, its 8100 all the way.
I can't wait to buy my first phone with my hard-earned cash tomorrow!

nice post! keep us updated.

What headset did you use with it? Moto HB850 seems popular but the H500 is supposed to be out by end of month.

I can't believe the "mine is better than yours" mentality on this E815 vs the 8100 discussion. First of all, if you went by consumer reviews, nobody would purchase an LG because they are prone to dropping calls and nobody would consider a Motorola because of reliability issues. I think that the answer is that cell phones are not as reliable as they should be but some of the negative comments are skewed because of some people's inability to read directions, condition a battery properly and/or maybe their carrier is the culprit. In any event, reliability aside, I think these phones are more comparable than folks want to believe. I don't think that either phone possesses any features that "blow away" the other phones' features in comparison...

Thanks for all the feedback; I truly hope it helped.
I wrote a bit more comparing the VX 8100 to the E815 this morning at:

That's it for now. Until next time, I'm off to work with my new LG VX 8100!!
Cheers!

I have handled both LG phones and Motorolas and my opinion is that they are both made of plastic and my opinion is that neither phone is a "world apart". I just don't see the build quality difference that some people do, maybe this is because my phone has been incapsulated in a leather case from the day I got it, who knows, maybe I am missing out on the joy of a better constructed phone. As far as which blue tooth headset is faster/clearer, I bet you that is more of a coin flip, I bet some will say it is and others will say it isn't. Regarding the text messaging being able to be viewed on the outer display, I guess that is a clear benefit if you are a big text messager. For my needs, I'd still take the phone with supposed better recepti...

I agree. I think most people are leaning more towards one phone and are here more to affirm their choice than change it. Featurewise they are definitely similar. It depends more on what your past experience has been with that brand phone. Me, I hate Motos 😡 😡

Fair opinion, thank you.

When I played around with the E815 in Long Island today, it felt a little flimsy to me. The two sections of the clam shell were easily rocked side to side when the phone was closed, and the buttons just felt like crap. Plus the size is a little longish. And who knows what problem has caused it to be pulled from the website NATIONWIDE!! (I doubt it's a software glitch!!) I'm PATIENTLY waiting for the 8100!!!
...
it is a software glitch. they forgot to load the vcast software into a large portion of the phones. i think they rushed the release to beat the 8100 to the market and ended up screwing themselves. that's just my opinion.
...
Bummer to hear about the Motorola E815 software issue. The one I had previously before exchanging it for the LG VX8100 seemed to work fine with the VCAST feature, so who knows how widespread this problem is. I guess that's where good quality control comes in to play.
As for further impressions of the VX8100, I think it's one of, if not THE best cell phones I've ever owned. The long list of features is absolutely unparalleled, and I can't help but smile each time I stumble on to something new (as the manual isn't the most useful piece of literature...it doesn't even talk about the speakerphone)!!
On my way into work this morning, while using my Bluetooth headset, I activated the voice commands feature and spoke the phrase: "Misse...

I agree! This is a forum of adults (I presume). There's no place here for insults! That's what teenagers do when they are frustrated from lack of wisdom. And to you, "supersonic," thanks for your feedback. Please don't feel insulted here at any time. Don't take anyone's stupid criticism personally. After all, we are just "fictitious" names here. Just laugh at it! This stuff is fun!! I'm PATIENTLY, repeat, PATIENTLY, waiting for my 8100!!! 😲

NY8100Guys,
Thanks for the support; I really appreciate it.
In the very short time that I've been posting on Phonescoop, I've been surprised at both the positive and negative feedback surrounding my comments about the LG VX8100 and the Motorola E815. Looking through the various threads, I see some other people are in the same boat too unfortunately. Strange. I'm not sure if the negativity stems from folks not being able to get the LG phone yet in their area, or what their motive is, but it really detracts from an otherwise fun and informative site.
As for waiting for the LG VX8100, your patience will most assuredly be rewarded once you get it. I look forward to your impressions!!
Work calls. Gotta run!

Supersonic,
How did I insult you? I just countered each one of your arguements, I didn't single you out and criticize you personally. Who are you to tell me that my opinion was "unecessary", I have been civil in my comments and don't think anything I have said is outrageous. Don't forget, you are the one the jumped to the conclusion that the E815 was better than the VX8100 and then did 360 degree turn around within a day or so. You also commented how you thought my opinion that these phones are closer than people want to think was reasonable. Perhaps these phones are "worlds apart" because you own the 8100 now. My point is that the 8100 could certainly be perceived as better based on personal preference, feature wise they are simila...
