Thanks! Great post. Now we know the truth. It was not intended to be an MP3 player at all - or they changed their mind. So now its up to the techies to hack this baby and get her singing. I'm no expert, but as soon as I get my hands on the phone I'll get to work. Unfortunately it looks like New York City will be the LAST place to get the phone âšī¸

The Datasheet and the detailed info clearly state that the miniSD card can be used to store "Music" and then in another area the Datasheet states that the exterior media controls give you easy access to this "Music"...

It seems that the 8100 is not intended to store MP3s except on the insertable miniSD card... This makes perfect sense...
It also states that the miniSD card can store user created pictures and videos...

But they're not calling it an mp3 player per se. Read a little more closely.

I was pointing out what they intend it to be used for not what we may ultimately be able to do. I am hoping we'll be able to fool it or hack it somehow to get mp3's on the card or load them via the data cable and get them to play.

Look at the 9th item down on the feature list... "MP3 Audio Player"...
