This was just posted on howardforums and I can confirm that it works using bluetooth. Have not tried using the cable yet.

You can enable DUN for the 8100 by
pressing menu
than 0
it will ask you for a security code which is 000000
once in the servicing menu you will see something like data settings
you can scrow down till you see
cable dun
bt dun
select either one and choose the enable option by highlighing and hitting ok
once that is done just hit clear till you are completetly out

It's disabled so that you can't use your phone as a modem on your pc, via either blue-tooth or using a data cable. Enabling it allows you to do so. DUN=Dial-up Networking

I just got my 8100 yesterday and went in to enable my DUN. Guess what???? It was already enabled. I guess Verizon is finally waking up and letting their customers do some things with their phones.

What software version is on it? If it's v.04, I'd guess it's a phone that was returned by someone disgruntled by the screwy DUN situation on the 8100.

It had v.04 on it, but it was a brand new phone. Everything was still sealed and still had the protective coverings on it.

Definately not a returned model....just a brand new one that had the new software.

No, I can't confirm that as I don't have anything to pair the phone with via bluetooth that has internet access....and I don't have the data cable.

I just know that when I went into the secret menu, both btDUN and cable DUN was enabled.

Don't even bother, you won't be able to use DUN with the new software (EVDO connection) you might be able to use it as a modem, but Verizon has disable DUN on all the phones that are VCAST phones cause people where abusing their new 3g network... they don't want that bastards.

It will cost you $175 for the early termination fee. This is a violation of the contract as you are stealing service. Have a nice day.

Not if you are using the 1X connection. It is only a violation of service if he uses the EVDO connection, which is disabled for DUN on the new version of the 8100 software.

how would you use 1X connection? the new software prevents you using #777 completely. they say you can use the phone as a modem and connect to other service providers, but that doesn't seam to work for me.... what's the user/password for 1X network?

thanks,

Arkady

I just called VZW and talked to an unusually helpful tech.

First off, dial-up-networking is OK to use according to the contract, as long as it's not broadband. Even then, it sounds like they won't punish you but they are trying to limit access to broadband however possible.

He said they've disabled DUN on the EVDO phones because people were getting free broadband access and Verizon apparently couldn't figure out how to limit their DUN speed to just 1x. So they disabled the whole damn thing.

He said they are still working on the problem and will probably re-enable DUN for this phone sometime soon, but he had no idea when that might happen. I told him that I thought that was pretty ridiculous because I paid for the Mobile Office Ki...
