8100-Anyone having Voice/volume issues? Is there a work around?

wireless in MA

Jul 14, 2005, 10:15 AM
I tried the 8100 in the store yesterday. Not sure if it was all the metal in Circuit City, but the volume was low even when the phone was on high for master volume and high for earpiece volume. Also, the volume seemed to go higher and lower during the call, although no problems in hearing me on the other end. Do you think it was the metal in the store, or that particular shipment or is this an issue folks are having with the phone?

Any suggestions on a work around? Is there a BT headset that can amplify or add additional volume?

Thanks for any advice. I loved the phone otherwise- Great Camera compared to others I've tried and great features otherwise--and definitely would be my first choice if I could figure out the volume issue-- TH...

Turn off auto-volume, seems to fix it, this appears to be a known issue requiring software fix.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try it before I purchase it. On the phone I tried, it happened when the autovolume was on and also not on. 1. Does anyone know if a BT headset can increase the volume even when the phone is set on high for master volume? 2. Would Verizon come out with a software fix for the phone eventually if others have the same issue? I'm not sure how those things work-- Thanks-

I completely understand- so many folks have indicated the volume is one of the good features so I'm not sure if it's the particular batch or not. Did you get your phone in MA? At Circuit City? Just wondering.

In case this helps, I was told that if you buy a bluetooth headset with a volume control on it, you can further increase the volume from what the phone would do. Have you tried that yet? If you do, let me know if that works!

Best of luck- I hope that you and your husband are able to talk with no phone clarity issues- and if not I hope that if you go to Verizon Wireless and let them know they'll exchange the phone, especially with your hubbie in the military. Hope he comes back safe and sound!

I am in mass but I ordered through CS. I have yet to venture into the bluetooth technology but I am thinking of getting a headset. I think I may wait 1 more night and venture to Verizon if it is still an issue............Thank you for your kind words............ 😉

I'm not trying to say anyone has overlooked this, but from experience with owning a VX7000, when I first got my phone, it had a clear protective piece of plastic over the earpiece that I didn't notice until I had it for a couple days. I thought, oh well, the volume level is very low... But, when I took a close look at the earpiece, I finally noticed the tiny, protective sticker that you need to pick at to remove.

If you haven't done that yet, could that be the issue people are having with the volume? I hope that's it or there is some other fix (like a firmware update), because I want to switch back to Verizon and this phone is one of my top choices... 🙂

Hey, I'll take a look to see if that's the problem. For me I demoed the phone in a Circuit City store so I was wondering whether it was all the metal in Circuit City or whether it was that particular batch of phones in MA. Thank you so much for giving me a possible very easy thing to check; I'd really like to buy this phone because of the bluetooth. Maybe that's the problem. BTW, does Verizon typically do firmware updates in a timely fashion? I haven't been with VZW before. THANKS again!

No problem... I hope that's what the problem is too. When I saw that on my 7000, it was a eureka moment. They had that piece of plastic snugly placed over the earpiece to protect it, which made it t...

Hey as long as they eventually can do the update that'd be great. My colleague is looking at the 7000- any problems with yours and how long have you had it? Do you have the 8100 now or are you checking it out? What do you think? Thanks again-

I still have my 7000, and had a great signal for a while. Then, all of a sudden, I would get no signal or a very weak signal and many dropped calls in my apartment and the surrounding area. Before, I had a very strong signal.

It turned out (after calling Verizon many times and having the local store look at my phone) that the cell site in my area was damaged. Verizon let me out of my contract because of this since they don't give estimates ...

I've had a number of ideas for fixes on the volume issue, all of which look promising so I'm going to try and see if any of them work after I head home from work. It'd be fabulous if something took care of this issue and I'll definitely post what I find and hope others do as well.

That's great info re: the 7000. I was leaning towards the 8000 because of the speakerphone But the 7000 also has good reviews. I'd like BT so that's the draw to the 8100 and the cris-camera which is really nice. That's great that you have the choice re: Verizon or another provider. Thanks for the info and it'll be interesting to see how this all goes.

Any luck yet with the low volume issue? Are you having this issue even with a fully charged battery, full signal strength, and after doing *228 SEND and choosing Option 2? And, have you spoken with tech support yet to see if this is a widespread problem that needs to be fixed with a firmware update?

I noticed that the feature is off and I have not had any problems with the volume. But I have not tried using a bluetooth headset yet. What exactly does the auto volume do?

Turn the auto volume off and change the voice privacy to standard instead of enhanced. Every LG phone I ever had sounded less than spectacular until I did these 2 things. It makes 1000% difference. This is the first thing I do now when I take them out of the box.
