This is ALL from frigginmike.

"i took a song named like a stone.mp3 and renamed it to like a stone.qcp
put it on the card under the folder "my sounds"
go to get it now, get tunes and tones, and my sounds and play it."
Exactly how do you rename it some may ask, I did. Heres how.
"well if you are on windows xp you have to go into windows explorer...go to Tools on the menu bar..then to folder options. then go to view...and make sure you have the "hide extensions for known file types" UNCHECKED. click apply and then ok.
now you will see that the file type is song.mp3
right click on it and choose rename and change the mp3 to qcp"
This worked perfect for me hope it does for u. Its not a real mp3 player but better than nothing.

I wanted the 8100 as soon as I found out it was coming out, then waited and waited and waited, until I gave up and went with the 815. I have to say I really liked the 815 and thought I had given up on wanting the 8100, but then when I could finally get it (went into the store and they only had 1 to sell) I thought I had to do it. I like the 8100 a lot, BUT I like the 815 too. Still not sure if switching was the right choice. I paid full retail for the 815 and instead of exchanging for the 8100, I kept it because I'm just not 100% sure I want to give it up yet and stick with the 8100. What to do, what to do....If I could wear one on each hip I would be happy.

OH MY!! The key here is going into folder options and making sure "hide extensions for know file types is "UNCHECKED"....this will enable the file actually becoming a qcp file type when you rename it!!! and walah!! bingo...it works!! yipppeee!!

How does it play the mp3 file? Will it open up the elusive media player? Any function from external media keys? Any play on flip closed?

Not understanding about naming conventions, I made a my sounds folder on the miniSD card and copied 2 mp3 files there and renamed to extension qcp. I then put it into the phone but was unable to see the files. I then put it back into my PC and saw that the phone made two directories - my_sounds and MY_PIX. I then moved the two music files to the my_sounds folder and went back into GIN My sounds and I was able to play the two files.

HOWEVER, the sound stopped after about 30 seconds but the play/stop icon still said "stop" so it looked like was playing but you didn't hear anything. I did this under my sounds vs ringtones. I am assuming that either one of these options has a time limit and will stop playing to sound after about 30 secon...

i was able to play all kinds of files all the way through...now there is a better way..look for the thread in here where you can download a program called super v1.7. It convert mp3's to 3g2 files which can then be stored in your flix folder on the card. Once you do that, the files all show up in the flix folder in get it now, and can be played with the video player!! This method works great!! gives you forward, reverse, pause and play features...the outside controls still don't work though.
