Seems to have fixed problem...fingers crossed
Well, changing the privacy and the turning off auto volume seem to have done the trick so far. I had a long conversation with the same person today that I had the issue with the other day and no problems at all this time. Loud and clear the whole time. Let's hope it stays that way. I really like this phone.

Just a question that I've been thinking about.. Does the fluctuating volume occur on outgoing or on incoming calls, or both? 🙄

wonder if this happens on ev-do phones only???i hears the 8000 and the 8100 both have volume problems and both have ev-do!!!!just a shot in the dark,my old 7000 never had volume problems

It sounds like something is going on, especially since I am seeing a lot of people on here having this issue... My 7000 never had that problem. Maybe they manufacture that part of the phone differently with these newer models to cut costs? It's a shame because I thought that if I liked my 7000 a lot, I would love the 8100 since it has bluetooth and EV-DO, etc...

It's not a part problem - its a software issue. to improve on voice quality, they may have made changes to the original software that has created an intermittent volume issue. Based on some other posts, it appears Verizon engineers may be aware of this and are working on a fix for it.
Hopefully, they will have a fix soon. I don't seem to have the issue when I'm using a wired headset or the Motorola speaker.
