My opinion on the whole MP3 thing....

First I want to say that I do understand the frustration everyone has with the whole MP3 thing...I feel it too...however, we all need to look at this like mature adults. Did LG design this handset to play MP3's from the SD card and create a media player to support it? Yes they did. Did verizon "cripple" or hide the program within the software? Yes they did. Is this right for them to do? Well....on a customers stand-point, no, it's not right at all. On a business side of things, yes, it is absolutely right. The belief is that Verizon wants it hidden until they release their MOD (music on demand) service so we have to pay to download the songs. But look at it this way: once they do release the MOD service, we will probably be able to upload MP...

Yes, I agree that Verizon has the best customer service and coverage and frankly I don't care about the MP3 player. I have noticed that more and more people have started writing in reviews of phones (CNET and others) that phones from the manufacturers are pretty nice and full of features. The one line that stands out is that "Verizon is notorious for disabling features" that the factory puts in.

I think that Verizon is going to be in hot water later if they keep disabling features as the market changes to a more tech-savvy group.

Tech-savvy or not, I have no reason to believe people will accept the consequences of their phone hacks and will blame Verizon for every hiccup.

I'd rather have Verizon famous for disabling features I'd never use instead of phones that catch every wireless virus out there and bring their network to its knees.

This board alone is filled with people who just can't accept that the LG8100 LCD display is exactly the same size as the Mot E815.

Why would anyone expect Verizon to allow us to flatten our phone batteries even faster by using the phone as the EV/DO modem to a laptop when PCMCIA EV/DO data cards are only $80?

What phone provider wants to risk their reputation just for you?

I knew it. I figured Verizon would flash the phones when MOD comes out. But I didn't post anything, lol. I hope these hacks people are doing doesn't mess up their phone when new software updates come thru on the 8100.

If you read verizon's disclosure pertaining to EVDO phones you'll see that they clearly state that they can do this. The disclosure reads "Verizon Wireless reserves the right to make changes to your phone's software without notice." Again, is this morally right, maybe not, but they can do it.

This is where I have an issue... you see, subsidized or not, the customer owns the handset. That phone belongs to you, you cancel the service, pay an ETF, and keep the handset. In my book, changing something I own, without notice, is wrong. I pay them for wireless service, not to do whatever they want to my possessions whenever they feel like it without my having the right of refusal.

This would be akin to purcha...

I believe the phone IS your property, but I doubt that the software is. I'm sure it is just licensed, like computer software.

Anyway, Verizon...

I want a phone that at least works like a PHONE, without fading, fluctuating, drifting volume!!!

That's my rant for now!!!

So in that vein you can say- the LG phone hardware is like a Dell or Compaq and Verizon software is like --well, Microsoft?
