Car Kit mode????

Kingcarter

Somehow my 8100 has switched into "Car Kit" mode. I don't know what I did to activate car kit mode, don't know how to disable it, and even VZW customer service doesn't know what car kit mode is.

Bottom line is I can make/receive calls, but can't hear the person on the other line, and they can't hear me. TXT msgs work. When I plugged in a headphone, still no sound.

Anyone have any thoughts/ideas?

Go to SYSTEMS & TOOLS, then SYSTEMS and check STANDALONE MODE. It should be set to OFF.

I'm not sure if this will help, but it's worth a try.

Good luck.

Unfortunately not. Standalone mode is off.

I did a bit or further research on some other forums and it seems water is the likely culprit (got stuck in a downpour at a softball game), phone definitely got wet - indicators are pink.

That said, anyone know how Verizon insurance handles water damage?

yes Verizon's asurian insurance will handle water damage if you have the 4.99 a month on your account. You might try taking it apart and blow drying it or just take the battery off and let it sit in the sun for a couple hours to dry it out. Sometimes that will fix the problem.

They will usually try VERY HARD to get you to buy a new battery, too. They told my daughter she HAD TO buy a new battery - and she believed them!

Does the insurance not cover the battery? Believe me, I'll do everything possible to get them to provide a new battery too - for $5.99/mo. + $50 deductible.....

I haven't see the policy yet though - just bought the phone on Sat. How is the battery issue handled in claims?

Car Kit! Our Favorite LG phenomenon! When your phone goes into car kit, it's basically that your phone is confused. It believes there to be a headset plugged into it, thats why you can complete a call but can't hear or be heard!
The only trick that's ever worked for me is plugging in an actual headset and finagling it until car kit goes away! Yet sometimes theres just nothing that will work, but don't get to down yet, LG will repair your phone under your manufacturer's warranty if they can't tie it into physical abuse. Remember that every phone has a year long manufacturer's warranty!

Ive Had this Problem on Several 7000s and a Couple 8000s usually taking a small screwdriver and rubbing the contacts inside the chargeport (Turn Phone Off First!) and I use compressed air to blow out any possible foreign matter that could be causing a short
of course on several phones it took some Q Tips and Isoprophyl Alcohol to clean those contacts and Let it thoroughly Air Dry

Good Luck

everyone is on the right track here, cleaning the bottom port with alcohol based cleaner is the only way to avoid an insurance claim. someone mentioned the year warranty but that's void since you already mentioned that the liquid damage indicator is pink. the insurance does cover battery replacement but you need to make 100% sure that you make that clear to them when you file the claim. they always seem to try and screw people on this part. by the way, the actual problem is that there is corrosion in the charge port and the phone thinks you have a car kit(car charger/speaker phone) plugged in. problem is this usually means there is more liquid damage inside the phone itself. have fun with the insurance company!

Considering the phone they send you as a replacement is worse then any fru you would get from a VZW store.....trust me on that one. Any tech on here that works in a verizon store and has seen an insurance company issued phone knows what I'm talking about.

the older the model the more likely you will get a really crappy refurb, the newer the model then the better chance they will not have crappy refurb to send and actually send you a good one.
