I just got the 8100 yesterday and i am liking it so far. the only thing that is really pissing me off are these lights on the front blinking everytime i get an incoming call.
anyone know how to turn these OFF?
thanks

Unfortunately, they cannot be turned off. I returned the 7000 about a year ago for this very reason. These disco lights might be great for a 15 year old. But for a professional adult, they are totally unacceptable.
I've always loved LG phones. But the disco lights fall under the category "what were they thinking".

you have got to be kidding me . . . đŗ

It works great for those situations where the phone is on vibrate, but you're not in a position to feel it, or you can't hear the ringer.
...
I agree alert lights are very handy. It's the brightness and multi-colors that are annoying.
...
ay, this fone has bigger problems than flashing disco lights. and i happen to find the lights very good and i wish it had more.
...
Picture yourself in a meeting with the lights down low while someone is giving a presentation. The lights go off and you've got a multi-colored light show on the wall behind you. After everyone stopped staring at me, I had to go talk to the boss about my new phone... NOT cool. The phone was returned the next day. Unfortunately, even setting the phone to silent doesn't stop the disco show.
...
I personally like the lights, but I can see that being a problem in meetings. i've had people say when it goes off in a meeting people cover their eyes. I usually keep the phone in my pocket though, so unless I'm wearing light colored pants, no one sees it.

If u want to be professional just get Samsung SCH-a650 No Lights! No Camera, No external LCD, No Speakerphone, No fun features!
Then ur boss not going to have to warn you about ur phone again đ

I like everything you mentioned except the disco lights. Actually, if I were to get a total business phone. It would be the Audiovox SMT5600. Unfortunately, it is Cingular only. âšī¸

The fact that I couldn't turn off the disco lights was one of the reasons I returned the VX8100. These disco lights are not professional enough looking for my taste, considering that I use the phone for business purposes. Another reason I returned the phone is that the font (other than for phone numbers) was far too small for my eyes and could not be enlarged. There were other reasons as well for returning the phone, but these are two of them.
...
It's not professional at all. You are a professional, you have your suit and tie on and you take off your jacket in a big meeting. You have placed your phone on vibrate so as to not create any distractions during the meeting / presentation.... The stupid thing lights up the room like a Christmas tree while the lights are dimmed for the presentation.... NOT COOL. Hey, on the weekend or in the evening I am fine with them.... but give me an option to turn them off!!!!
Yes, it does also have much bigger problems than this but this was just stupid to include and not include a way to turn off.
My liking for LG is dropping fast.

Unfortunately, phones seem to be branching off in two directions. Those that are all business (not much fun), and those who are marketed toward the younger high school and college age crowd. I would like a little of both.
It's too bad the 7000 I had did not have a simple "turn off switch" for the lights. I had to return a phone I considered exceptional in every other way.
...
Mark, You are right. That appears to be the direction. I agree, just give us a way to turn them off. It should be pretty simple to make it a menu option.
...
Actually not a bad idea. When the 7000 first came out. There were all kinds of suggestions to kill the lights. I even considered using electrical tape, black fingernail polish, etc. I also thought about taking it apart to cover the lights until I found out it would void my warranty. I even looked for a case that would cover the lights. The sad thing is that the 7000 was a great phone, and I loved it. But, the disco lights were just unacceptable for my work environment.
...
Yea right, the lights are awesome. I took the phone in a pitch dark room, called myself and started doing the robot! Thats one of the main reasons Im keeping this phone đ
...
I like the lights. Adds flare .

I like the lights.
Lighten up đ

I have a simple solution--turn the phone off. I'm sure you can live without getting a call or text message while you're in a meeting. Seems like common courtesy and professionalism to me.
...
Yeah, or just put it in your pocket or purse. Problem solved!! Next question!
đ
...
Yea!! I'm in a conservative profession and I love the lights myself--it's fun makes the phone stand out from others. But when I go into a meeting, I just leave my phone at my desk. I think it would look bad to be answering a call when I'm in a meeting.
...
That's right!! And if you're expecting a critical call, the phone can be left in your pocket with vibrate active and no ringer. No one other than yourself will hear it or see it. Then you can quietly excuse yourself from the meeting and attend to your critical call.
Come on, guys!
Are we gonna pick apart every millimeter of this phone and complain about it? Just ENJOY it! Sure there are some big issues, but LIGHTS?? đ
Gimme a break!! đ

I don't answer it in a meeting but I shouldn't need to have to worry about remembering to take it off my belt and leave it on my desk or put it in my pocket. I set it to vibrate every morning. I would disable the lights every morning at the same time. It's just a suggestion that I think would make it more versitle for all ages. Like I said, I like them when I am not at work.
...
That's why they make them so they can be set to vibrate only or to completely silent.... so I don't have to shut the da*n thing off. Just give us the ability to disable them like the sound. Why does everyone have to get so pissy about a suggestion for an improvement. I didn't say get rid of them I said give us a way to disable when we want to. Man some of you need to lighten up.
...
True, it would be nice to have a phone that EVERYTHING on it could be customized. Maybe it would be an easy thing for LG to disable the lights! đ
Some people don't like the shade of blue on the faceplate. That could be customized, also.
My vision isn't as good as it once was, so maybe we could get an option for a larger font.
How about an option for lefties to have the outside buttons reversed like Microsoft does for southpaw mouse users?
And so on, and so on, and so on.
I've attended hundreds, probably thousands, of business meetings. I just don't feel that the lights would be a problem.
The problem might be that we feel self-conscious, but they would not bother others.
I do hope that LG includes a "shut off" o...

The problem I had with the call lights was not with having the light itself. I think a call alert light is a necessary feature. The problem I had with them was mainly with the intensity and different colors. Instead of being a subtle reminder that you're receiving a call. They seem to scream out for the world to see. They also reminded me a a toy cell phone my daughter has. But, you are correct in that there are work arounds. But, turning it off for a meeting is not an option. I need to be able to see an incoming call and either excuse myself or decline the call. Putting in my pocket is also not an option since you would need to expose the strobing lights while you investigate the call.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm having to make...

I agree with the lovely-handed "phonephetish":
If the lights distract your meeting, so will talking on the phone --so there's no reason to keep it on.
