I picked up the Moto E815, yeah right, the Power Rangers Walkie Talkie I just bought my kid from Walmart seemed better made. So I moved on to the LG 8100, OK, seemed at first glance like a decent phone…..but oh yeah, just a few little minor bugs. Like you can’t hear on it! some of the other junk works but the main purpose of the thing is to talk and hear and a few 1000 people on the Net have complained about a volume issue. Yeah, I’m gonna jump right into that phone.
How in the heck does a company let something like that happen. How come the independent labs and reviewers don’t call them on it? Or is it just a handful of unlucky schmucks holding a schelp-rock posting that are having problems?
Some people have returned both the Moto...

My E815 works fine and is very durable. Just got done with a ten mile hike today and it bashed up against a tree and also fell out of my pocket down a rock slope. It still works fine. Before owning the E815 I had an LG 6000 and the LG 4400 and dropped then on average of fifty times on the pavement and they never died. I'm sure the 8100 is just as durable. As far as the call quality of the 8100 I really don't know. It seems some have a few problems and others are completely satisfied. I hear what you’re saying though; Verizon has put out some very sketchy phones lately. Despite any problems might be causing you, I still believe they are the best carrier out there. Just hang tough for the Sammy 940 or the cdma Razr. 😁

I know what you are saying--- I've got the 8100 and really noticed a difference between it and my Dad's 4400 (used to be my old phone). I had to make a call on the 4400 yesterday for him and actually had to turn the volume on the earpiece DOWN because I feel my eardrum vibrating.
I looked at Cingular since they don't mess with the phones, but I'm probably going to stay with Verizon since thier network is better (EV-DO speed).

Thanks! Glad to hear it was just the phone that got bashed and fell down the slope. 😲 I might give the Moto another look, it was more of an initial 'feel' thing, used to LG maybe. Would be nice to have some reviews do some durability tests, like drop them out a window or something. I beat the crap out of my old 4400 and the thing held up. In the past you used to just drop your phone nowadays you’re dropping your own personal communications/entertainment center.
Do most newly released phone come with bugs these days? Not sure if I wait for the 940 or Razr if it will be the same? Or is it just VW messin with it?

I did have the same durability concerns you had when I first pick up the 815 over the 8100. The 8100 does have a more durable feel at first handling. I think part of that ,for me anyway, was the way the 8100 seems to lock open more solidly. But, I soon realized the 815 did not need to be pampered. It has a rubber bumper that it opens against, so it feels a little less solid. But, I also realized that a little flexibility was a good thing. I eventually got over the concerns and realized it was plenty durable enough.

that is it! That's why it didn't feel right to me. OK, now I'm leaning back to the Moto. Especially if it's less buggy. Thanks!

The 815 is not perfect. But, so far the only thing I can complain about is the weak vibrate. It just can't be felt when on your belt. The work-around for this is to use the very discreet low volume "Tada" tone. It sounds similar to the tone they use for push to talk phones. It's very quiet and usually you're the only one who hears it.
After doing a little research, I found the vibrate is located in the battery so the phone itself is not to blame. Other than this small thing, the phone has exceeded my expectations.
I know I'll draw some fire because of this comment. But, if you'll compare both forums. You'll notice the 8100 forum is more about problems. While the 815 forum is more about it's features.
Again, I was a die hard LG fan ...

Stopped in a store today and saw the rubber bumper on the flip, that 'is' why at first I didn't like the feel. But when nobody was looking I twisted it a bit and bashed it a little, 😈 and it seemed solid. I may be wrong but my guess is it's probably comparable with the LG in terms of durability. Maybe a VZW insider could take a hammer to a couple broken returns and let us know? 😉

I keep seeing people describe the E815 as not well made. I don't think picking it up at the store is a very fair comparison. Mine has yet to disintegrate in my hands. I've dropped it twice already, once on concrete, and it still works just fine. If you want to make a real comparison, then try both phones, then make your choice. As a LG fan of many years, that's what I did. I kept both for equal amounts of time, even though the benefits of 815 were apparent early on. I'm not bashing the 8100. I'm just saying that for a fair comparison, you need to give equal time to both phones, then make your choice. Just because the 815 was a better phone for me. Doesn't mean the 8100 is not better for you. Just make a fair comparison.

Was your LG buggy or did you compare based on 2 good models?
Good to hear the Moto survived, I expect many drops. I usually wear a belt clip but any idea if there is a leader holster or something with clip that would give it a fightin chance as I drop it all around town?

The LG 8100 I had seemed fine. It did seem to have a slightly less degree of call quality & reception than the 815. I'm not sure if it was a bug or not. Since a friend has the 8100 (which he loves), we were able do a side by side comparison even after I returned my 8100 to try the 815. We both noticed the difference in the call quality. Since the phone part of the phone is the most important to me, this was one of the deciding factors.
I gave both phones the "house" test. I've always had reception problems while using a cell in my house. Low call quality and low reception bars. The 8100 was about the same as other phones. But, the 815 blew me away with it's call quality and reception in the house. Even in my home office/server room where ...

Thanks for the info, good stuff. Maybe I'll try the Moto (even with an LG bias). I actually need 2 phones so maybe I'll get both and try em. Bit of a hassle though, I get a company discount so I have to get them mailed. Then deal with returns. Maybe I'll get lucky though and one or the other or both will work fine. 🙂
Or maybe they'll both suck 😡
Seems like there's no clear winner. We'll see. Maybe I can get Verizon to pay me for doing some field testing for them?, 'Can ya hear me now'?! 'Can ya....'
Thanks for sharin!

You're all missing the point/ The scumbags at VZW mess with with software so they can make more money. Greedy bunch. Like Apple and their computers, there will be problems with any phones they touch. Maybe their engineers are just friggin stupid or just don't care. I heard they pushed out the 8000 with 'known problems'. Is that a company that cares about their customers?
