It says subscription for 4.99, so would that be every month, and it charges airtime minutes to?

Not sure about ESPN, have never used that one, but if it says subscription, that DOES mean every month. Some applications, though, have an unlimited you can buy that would only be a one time charge. As far as airtime goes, you can go to info on each app. and it will tell you if airtime is required for use, OR, if your using it, look and see if you have the little phone with arrows at the top that signals that your "connected" or using minutes.
