Are all Data Cables created equally?

I don't know, but I am beginning to believe that my data cable isn't so much a data cable as it is a charging cable. Bitpim refuses to detect my phone, and I plugged in my old VX7000 to try that one too. Nope. Nothing. I have a Mac, so I don't even need driver software. I have even tried it on a PC, but still no luck. What am I doing wrong? It has got to be my cable, because I have tried everything.

Any Mac users successful with their bitpim and VX8100???

I'm on Mac too. Going thru the different sites for data cables and remember seeing a charging cable somewhere under the data cable section. I guess there is a difference. Maybe you got one of those . Where did you get it from?
