Is the mobile office phonebook kit the same as the bitpim??

I spoke w/a Verizon rep and they told me that they sell the mobile office kit by Smith Micro for 29.99 that lets you update the phonebook on the 8100. He said he doesn't think it will connect with Outlook. Anybody know what this software is? Is it the same thing as Bitpim? I ordered the VX8000 cable from Ebay but just thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

No, it is not the same. Mobile office kits limit your ability to transfer data, and use their own software to do so. If you want to use bitpim in order to access all file systems in the phone, just get a cheap USB cable with modem driver online for like $15 or $20. research the forums for 8100 & 8000 for steps on how to use bitpim and QPST to download files and do certain "Tweaks".

Thanks. I did order one on ebay--for the VX8000 and comes w/driver. From what I've read I think it will also work with 8100. I will play around with the programs once I get the cable. I guess the one that Verizon sells is just for the phonebook, as opposed to bitpim that allows you to do more manipulation with the phone, right?

Thanks again.

You got the idea. Bitpim is more user friedly than QPST by the way. QPST is Qualcomms test suite, and involves much more than data transfer. Lots of engineering stuff too... don't mess with it though.
