vx8100, e815, and a little thing called a mp3

So we know that the 8100 and the 815 are almost evenly matched, but we now know that this phone doesnot have a mp3 player and the e815 does. MOD sucks and i would never use it. So,(HONESTLY) Is it time to flock to the e815???

Thanks fellas. All views and opinions will be greatly appreciated, Omar M.

Absolutely not. I had the 815 before the 8100, and without trying to bash the 815, I must say, it felt soooooo cheap, the body of it was so long then on top of that had a very long antenna (not-retracted) that it made it awful to have in your pocket, the big screen was nice, but everything else was boring including the dull silver, and I can't stress how much it felt so cheap and actually made a creaking sound when opening it, closing it and using it. I almost felt afraid to handle it. The 8100 is so solid, looks so cool with the added shiny blue front, front screen is great, sharp, menus, screen colors, camera, reception, functions-all great. I have had no problems with mine (knock on wood), and overall It just wasn't a hard decision fo...

As someone who started with the 8100, then went to the 815. I appreciate your honest opinion of the 815. I understand why you chose it as the better phone for you, just like I felt the 815 is right for me.

I just wanted to point out that the opening "creaking sound" you mentioned is actually a very subtle click that you hear when you open and close the phone. It's so subtle I can certainly see how it might be interpreted as a creak, but it is not. I've heard several people on this forum mention the creaking when opening thing, and I thought this might be a good time to clear that up.

Thanks for reading.

Mark929,

I have to say that was a very good point you made about the sound. When I had the 815 for a couple of days, I did notice it but I never thought it was a creaking. I don't think the phone seemed cheaply made, not any more than other phones (they're mostly made of plastic nowadays anyways), and I didn't like the appearance as much as the 8100 and it was a little bit bigger too. But I appreciate that you are giving your honest opinion and aren't bashing like some others around here are.

I think I agree with you, but honestly until you learn proper English and punctuation, you don't make much sense. I am not trying to be mean, but it is really hard to interpet your remarks. If you are implying that VZW will disable the MP3 player on the E815, I don't think that is likely. My educated guess is that they disabled it on the 8100 because their was a problem with it, but I could be wrong... And honestly they cannot disable the MP3 on the handsets (e815s) already shipped to customers.

i posted this on the e815 thread yesterday. hope you find it helpful.

here is my input...

i've been reading and occassionally posting on both the 8100 and 815 threads in under to figure out which is best for me.

any newbies, please be advised that for all the great info in these forums, you probably will still not be sure or be even more indecisive about choosing a phone.

i have now had both funs and honestly they are both fantastic. i won't bash either of them because i think they are both solid phones.

the 8100,
great looking, solid phone with two amazing displays. not just the resolution but the layout is fantastic. example is the ability to see your call log # and time stamp at the same time, and being able to read t...

the 8100 is fully mp3 capable and WILL play mp3's. all that you have to do is...

1. Save the .mp3(s) to your sd card
go to your cmd prompt in windows (start, run, cmd, then click ok)

2. go to the drive that your sd card shows up on. Mine is drive F:\ for instance. (type "f:" at the black screen and press enter)

3. you should now be here f:\

4: type dir and press enter, you should see: my_pix
my_flix
my_sounds

5. now type "cd my_sounds" and press enter (this is where you should have saved your .mp3 files)

6. type "dir' and press enter. you should see your mp3's

7. to get the files to play you have to rename them to midi files. this does not affect the quality of the songs, its just fooling the phone. type "ren song.m...
