I visit these forums occasionally and have contributed a few comments about the phones that I have used. I have viewed the hacks to get the ringtones to work on the 8100. What I want to know is will using Bitpim and QPST void the warranty on the phone?

So inother words...yes. Thanx for the info. I'd rather just pay the GIN price instead of losing the warranty. The price of the Verizon ringtones wont break me.

I don't care about the warranty, as I wouldn't tell them if I did do that, but I prefer to just pay the $1.99 for a ringtone I want and I usually use it for quite awhile, so it's not a big deal, it won't break me either.

It won't break me either. My biggest complaint is that almost everything they offer is top 40 crap and the same useless, mindless garbage that you hear on every "popular music" and so called "Alternative" radio. Those of us that want real music and not some brain dead corporate softcore crap that is being passed off as punk or hardcore have no choice but to do it ourselves. I don't forsee a lot of Black Label Society, Mindcandy, Souls At Zero or anything even close being found on GIN. What is their idea of an "Alternative/Punk" selection. Blink 182, Green Day, Good Charlotte.....more mindless crap. I rest my case.

using them will not void the warranty, as using them does not affect the hardware of the phone. Verizon will reflash your phones.

Warranty can be voided even if it does not alter the hardware. For instance, you load a 3rd party app, game, or ringtone on the phone and the tech is well within his rights to void the warranty if the problem may have been caused by what you loaded. I work for Sprint and we void warranties all day long on speaker issues when people have downloaded from 3gforfree or 3gupload. The techs here will also void warranties for any 3rd party games or software loaded on any phone. They aren't approved by the carrier, then they have the right to void it for modification.

Me either, I use Verizon 🤣 However you will find that if it is something that may be able to be attributed to what you did to the phone, be it adding or removing things, tampering with the file system (as we all do) or using non carrier approved ringtones, games or apps that they are well within their rights to void the warranty.

here is the real deal, you simply save your file tree to you desktop as a zip file, if for some reason you must have waranty work done simply reload your phone back to its original self, no biggie really, it isn't rocket science, the sofware is all relatively safe if you take percautions like backing up your files, i have never seen anyone turned down for using it and i have never heard of a tech asking someone that or voiding their waranty. Don't walk in and go i hooked my phone up and used some hack sofware and totally screwed it up! it is kinda of comon sense. i have talked to people who have had their 8000 swapped as waranty replacements and used bitpim, it really not that big of a deal, just don't go broadcasting it in the store if you ...

you can also simply delete the ringers you zapped on there from the phone itself and they will never know!

Yup, that is they key to it all. Even if you did it, make it look like you didn't. It is those not as devious as us that do not think ahead that get themselves in a pinch.
