Ya, that camera delay thing...

OK, not to drive this in to the ground and I am not getting rid of the phone because of this... But tonight, I was trying to take a picture of my daughter dancing out on the dance floor at a social gathering and found that every time I tried to take a picture of her dancing, it took the phone too long to snap the pic (a second or two), so I never got a good shot. A second is a BIG deal when you think you have the perfect shot.

I hope they fix this because I really like this phone!

Yeah, Chris, I had the same problem, which didn't really bother me because I used the camera only occasionally. But I returned the 8100 for the VOLUME problem which DID bother me every day.

So I'm still waiting to see what happens before I get another new phone.

I'm hoping the 8100 will get better. I'll also consider the Samsung 970.

Good luck with your 8100! 🙂

Did you have the resolution at the highest setting? Because at the highest it WILL have a 1 second delay, but doesn't on the others.

I don't recall. As I mentioned, I don't use the camera much, so I didn't pay attention to the resolution setting.

Even so, I think there shouldn't be a delay. In some cases, a split-second delay gives you an entirely different picture than what you expected! 😲

But dont Digital cams have delays also? I mean standalone cams not cells with cams in them.

I'm not sure about that. I think a still camera should be able to capture a picture as soon as the button is pressed, not a second later when the subject may have changed expression or position.

Of course, there could be an intentional delay programmed for self-pictures.

But snapping a picture should be instantaneous, don't you agree? 😕

Without a doubt that would be preferrable but I thought that I had read somewhere that some digi cams did that. I may be wrong.

Pretty much all digital cameras do have a delay. I have been using them for years. They have gotten much better of the last several years though. This is the slowest I have ever seen though. I am getting a full 3 second delay even on 640x480. I am not at all happy with the camera. My first pic was excellent and I was so excited. I think I got a dud though. I had sent some pics from PixPlace that are now listed in the gallery but can't be seen. I see only a question mark in a white box. Called data help desk and was told that it was probably a bad phone. I am going to try to get it exchanged and cross my fingers... ☚ī¸

I've used several digital cameras over the years and honestly I have not perceived the delay that you mention, but I'm no photographer! Maybe we're talking about 2 different things, or maybe the delay has just been imperceptible to me.

Anyway, my feeling is that, when you snap a picture, it should be instantaneous. Otherwise the subject may have moved and the results will not be what you intended.

With the 8100, there has been a pronounced delay, as you mention.

Known issue.

change to second best resolution and it would be fine.

I know it's a known issue, but I was at 640x480 at night, with the flash on and the zoom to full... So, apparently, it is not just a resolution thing...

Either way, I hope they find a way around this. It's not a show stopper for me, but would be nice to use the camera vs. having to lug around my digital camera (no delay in taking a pic).
