LG VX-8100 horrible standby battery performance!

I just got a new LG VX-8100.
The phone is rated for 6.8 days (163 hrs) of standby or 3.8 hrs (225 min) of talk time.

So far I get about an avg 15 hours of phone use before the phone shuts down over each of 3 days evaluation. I have had less than 1 hour of talk time during each of these 3-days. Each prior night I have fully charged the phone approx 8 hrs. If I don't use any talk time (ie just standby), the phone will go about 24 hrs before shut down. The display "on-time" is set to less than the defaults.

As a comparison, using a Motorola V710, I can go around 2 days before even the first bar is depleted (3/4ths charge meter) under exactly the same operating condition and location.

I have now tried 3 different batteries and the ...

Most battery life problems are cause by a lack of service in the area, especially with the EV-DO phones. If a phone has low service or no service it will search for service until it gets some and this require more battery life than usual. Not only that but if you have an EV-DO phone and live in a area that does not have EV-DO then you're battery will drain faster because your phone is constantly searching for EV'DO service. The V710 did not have EV-DO. There is a way to fix this on the 8100. Hit Menu->0->000000->3->1-> and you will get a menu that has 4 selections, I suggest either the digital only non hybrid or the 1x only. I've had my 8100 for two weeks now and mine always makes it through the day and I make about 2 hours worth of c...

I have had my 8100 for a couple weeks now, The battery life has been great for me, no better and no worse than my last phone wich was a 4400. i use it moderatly, a few phone calls a day, some txt messages, and just opening phone to play with it when i'm bored. And at the end of the day i'm only down 1 bar. I did shut off the ev-do service, not sure if that helped but no need searching for that service if i'm not going to use it. Yesterday i talked for about 1 hr total and sent about 15 txt mess and played some songs i loaded into phone it was down 2 bars after about 14 hrs of being off charger. my service is not great in my area either, so my guess is it's your phone. not sure if this helps any, just what i'm expieriencing.

I don't totally agree with this. I had the Vx8000 prior to getting the Vx8100 and I could go for over 3 days on the standard battery without any problems but with the Vx8100 it would shut off after just over a day. I do not live in an EVDO area. If your logic held then I would have had the same problem with the 8000 and I did not. I think part of problem with the 8100 I had (I returned it for a e815) is that it had very poor signal strength. It was constantly looking and trying to keep 1X service. I did not have this problem with my 8000 either. I had a much stronger signal strength both at home and at my office. I have not had any issues with the battery life so far on the e815. I haven't had it very long yet and have not pushed to...

I have not had any battery problems, however, I do live in an Ev-do area. Like someone else who posted, I make a few phone calls a day, send a few text messages, use the calendar feature a lot, and play some games when i'm bored. My phone can go usually 3-4 days before its down to 2 bars and I need to charge it. Maybe signal strength (or lack of) is what is draining yours so fast? I feel pretty lucky. I've heard of others with the battery problems. The only problems I have is the fluctuating volume, which isn't all the time. Otherwise, I'm pretty darn happy with this phone!

WeaponX434 could you tell me what the difference modes stand for. I don't have EV-DO in my area and I am not sure which setting would be best for me. My battery life varies, it seems to drain a lot faster at times. Would the SD card cause it to use more battery?

I tried disabling the EV-DO searching, since I am in an area that does not yet have EV-DO.

(Menu->0->000000->3->1->dig-only non-hybrid)

The up-time went from 16 hrs to around 50 hrs
(if less than 2 hrs talk time). So this setting definitely does help. It is still much less than most other phones I have used, but at least it is now tolerable.

Thanks WeaponX434 for the info...

Will disabling EV-DO cause Get It Now services to download/run slower? I have EV-DO in my area and I noticed that GIN is fast as hell and wasn't sure whether it is used or not in that situation.

Mine lasts about 4 days, but I don't use it excessively. Is there a real big difference between the std and ext battery?

I'm convinced that this has to do with the Mini SD Card.

Removing my card from the phone has quadrupled my battery life. I'm wondering if just having the card inserted is draining the battery, or if having a wallpaper that is stored on the card is the problem.

After I charge my phone again, I'm going to put the card back in and test the wallpaper theory.
