the way it works is evdo signal is different than 1x signal so since evdo signal is fairly new and coverage is limited you will get less bars inside any type of buildin ( in this case your house) so another way to look at it is have you ever been in a regular digital area with full bars than you loose all signal and your phone than switches over to analog with full signal. well same concept when the evdo signal fades completely out your phone will switch over to regular 1x digital coverage 😎

sv23,
Why is that? Does that mean that we are getting less coverage with the EVDO then 1X? Bottom line, is the phone less useful with this setup or not, what is EVDO and can I set the phone up to stay in 1X? Thanks.

EVDO reception has nothing to do with voice calls.

Anyone that trys to say otherwise, is incapable of reading. Look up EVDO and see for yourself.

Yeah, I would agree with that. In my house I show normally 1 or 2 bars of service, but I have yet to drop a call. I think the 8100 is actually superior to the 6000 model, which got great reviews. The guy who originally posted, was he dropping calls constantly and that's why he's returning his phone? Or is he just upset that the signal strength doesn't look very strong?

yeah i know what you mean, at my house my moto showed three bars and my lg 6100 showed two to three bars but both phones dropped calls constantly. My 8100 only shows a bar and sometimes nothing, but i have only dropped one call in four weeks! So eventhough my 8100 shows me less signal it seems to work much better than the other models i have tried out where i live???

A "Bar" doesn't relate to any specific signal level so it could be different for every model of phone. My roommate's Nokia for T-Mobile gets 6 bars at our house, my 8100 gets 2. Neither phone has dropped a call.

what i mean is when your phone shows 1x ev on your screen with one bar while you are not in a call its telling you your coverage on the ev primarily so if you want to acess the broad band service thats your coverage but when your phone shows 1x only thats the coverage your getting for your phone calls imagine it as if your phone would flip flop between banners 1x ev coverage than 1x coverage and yes the two coverages are different because if you look at the enhanced service area map it is smaller than americas choice map coverage area but no you are not loosing coverage your phone is going to switch to regular 1x if the ix ev is loosing signal (sorry its so complicated)

The phone will never go from 1 bar of 1X+EVDO to "Full" bars of 1X the way you are describing. The only reason the EVDO coverage is different is because some towers have it, and some don't.

Again, EVDO has nothing to do with making a phone call.

I had a similar problem with my 2 VX 7000s on my account. They worked perfectly for months, and then, all of a sudden, I was lucky to get 2 bars in or close to my apartment building.

After calling several times and going in to the Verizon store to get a firmware update, they finally told me that the cell site in my area was down. They let me out of my contract because they couldn't give me a definite date when service in my area would be restored.

I'm starting to think that it could be an issue with these newer LG phones and not the reason Verizon gave me. Maybe it's some sort of Verizon software glitch/incompatibility with the newer LG phones starting with the 7000 and the new user interface?

All I know that it was very odd fo...
