i talked to a techie on the verizon help line and he said that you wouldn't even have to go into your verizon store to get the update... that they do it through they're computers and that all you ahve to do is just rest your phone by dialing *228 and it would take care of it when ever the up date comes out... which will be within the next few days.... so save your self the trip and just stay home.

I believe you were given some bad info. *228 updates your Preferred Roaming List, and little, if anything, else. This update to activate the mp3 player, and any update to fix volume or camera issues, etc., is an update to the phones operating system. That is almost always something that requires your phone be "flashed" with the new software, and that is something that can only be done in the stores at present.

Ditto, InsuranceMan. Yesterday I spoke with a Verizon rep. at the local Circuit City store (who, by the way, has the nicest, most helpful Verizon agents I ever have encountered 🙂 ), and he has an 8100 as well. In the Virginia area, the update is due early next week. But, yes, one must take the phone to a store with tech people and leave it for an hour.

I wish they would do it like they do with the 325 for sprint where you can actually update the software OTA. I heard a lot of the new phones coming up are supposed to have this feature.
