What makes anyone think the 8100 "update" will be free?

It is a software update to fix manufacturer defects, these have always been free through most carriers even out of warranty.

Microsoft "patches" it's OS every couple of years, puts it in a new box and charges $100+ dollars. But for a phone, no, it's always free.
