Not to discount any of the problems being attributed to the use of Bitpim, but I have been using it on my phone quite a bit, I have yet to encouter such problems. Seems to me that the incidents being stated are the results from deleting the .dat files. Trust me I have completely customized my phone and there has not been one occurrance where I've had to delete any .dat files. If that is the method you are using to add Ring Tones, MP3s, or Videos. You are in fact messing up the phone. I've read several threads about people stating they will be taking their phones back after they have tinkered with it in that manner. I personally witnessed a Verizon Tech tell the customer in front of me, as I went to have my phone updated. How he knew s...

Yes I agree the Bitpim 7.35 version is a great tool to be able to use for adding ringtones, etc. However, with the official 7.34 version, which I had been using for about 2 or 3 weeks, you had to delete the .dat files in order for the items to show up on your phone after reboot. At least that is according to the instructions I found posted on howardforums. But strangely, these last 2 problems I had with the phone occured after I used Bitpim 7.35 over the last couple of days. The only thing I did was send phone data to bitpim and back and saved a .mp3 ringtone to the phone. Very odd. I have not used any other program with my phone other than Bitpim. I have been downloading the ringtones and wallpapaers from wwww.mp3ringtones4u.com, sav...

Yeah, but you see that was a hack that version was not meant to be used on the VX8100. I think by deleting that .dat file you may have done something to your phone. Speaking from a technical standpoint sometimes there are hidden dll files within a file. Perhaps you deleted one of those and now since you are using the correct version of Bitpim it is looking for that, now nonexistant dll file which in turn has created a new host of problems for you. It would be like you going to your Document & Settings folder on your PC and then deleting the file that contains your user profile. It would cause your PC major problems when trying to run applications now that is essentially whats happening w/ your phone now.

Oh crap...that sounds like a problem. I will just keep my fingers crossed that I don't continue to have this problem. I'm now leery of even using the 7.35 bitpim. Like I said, I will see what happens tonight and hope for the best. And it seems to only happen immediately after I used bitpim and at the house. Since I've been at work the phone has worked fine and I get a great signal. I'll keep you posted. If the problem continues, I guess the only thing I can do is try and exchange the phone for another and hope the techs don't figure out I've tinkered w/it. Or I suppose I could always put in a warranty claim...I always forget can you do that if you claim you dropped it and it just doesn't work anymore.

Worst case scenario is that you have your phone reflashed w/ version one and then version four again. I'd just make my case Verison Tech, if it comes to that you'd feel more comfortable if it were flashed w/ version one and then version four again.
...
I guess I will wait around for the update and see if the VZW tech can flash both software versions...I will play dumb...
...
I am wondering if I am having problems specifically because I used the 7.34 version.
Any thoughts??

As you well know Techs come in different competencies. If you haven't flashed your phone w/ version 04 yet. Go get it reflashed w/ version 01 now. Just say something like you mentioned earlier, that the ERI banner keeps disappearing and that you read on HoFos (Howard Forums) or something that a reflash of version 01 will fix it. If they are relatively busy like most stores I've seen they will just give you a service ticket and tell you to come back in 45 mins.

Now you have me thinking, 🙄 🙄 is using bitpim really considered hacking the phone. Can it cause problems with the service people, where they might tell you that they can not work on the phone since it was hacked.
...
I hadn't really thought of bitpim as hacking or that vzw techs would realize we had changed files on the phone. But I suppose w/7.34 you are deleting certain files that they may see as missing when they go to troubleshoot. Either way I am still having service issues w/8100 even after I got a new one yesterday. Still waiting for techs to get back to me (withi 24 hrs) on if there is service problem in my area. Weird thing is I have dropped a few calls out of my area today as well.

I don't think the use of Bitpim 0.7.35 is a hack because it was specifically designed to manage your cell phone. The previous versions were not designed to do so. You were required to delete some .dat files to use it. Which thereby makes it a hack. If you use proper software to manage your phone I don't think its an issue in fact my local verizon store says they use datapilot to transfer info from phone to phone. In short if the software was specifically designed to manage your cell phone no problem if not your pretty much hacking.

Thanks for the info. I now have three different style phones and thought about getting the Datapilot to take care of things on the three phones. It does now handle the LG 8100 and the Motorola 815. Thanks again 😁 😁

So I exchanged the phone for a new 8100 and I am still having problems with service. As I'm driving from the verizon store, the phone is fine. Then as I approach my area, the service gets cut off and I don't have a signal and can't make a call. This is the craziest thing ever. I originally thought the problem was using bitpim 7.35 because that's when it started happening. But that's not it because I haven't even used bitpim with this new phone yet...I've barely had it an hour! As we speak, it says "searching for service" on the main screen, and all the service indicators at the top of the screen fade in and out.
I am going to give it a few days and if it continues I may be going with the 815. This really sucks!!

Are the other phones you mentioned Verizon phones? I know my previous phone never worked well inside my condo but when I went outside the signal got better. I chalked it up to my neighborhood everybody having wireless everything, satelite dishes, wireless access points, trees and possibly building materials. When I went outside my neighborhood the signal would be at full strength. Do you think its your location?
...
I think location has to be a factor...I still had problems at the house this morning, and as I jumped on the nearest freeway the signal was okay. About 10 miles away I had clear calls but did still drop 1 call. The other Kyocera phone is also Verizon--no problems whatsover. I'm going to wait for the call from the tech and see if they discovered any problems in the area. If not, then I am going to have to exchange for another 8100 or an 815.
