I am so excited to be able to use the 8100 as a modem via a Bluetooth connection, not only can I connect to the internet with both my computer & PDA at speeds double that of dial up but I can now fax from my laptop from any where that I have signal. This is all without haveing an aircard!

It definately works! I have used it with speeds up to 1.5 mbps...

Only thing is, its not supported by VZW, bad thing about that is if they see you with a bunch of data usage on your phone and its not Get It Now or V Cast (and trust me they know) you run the risk of having your service terminated and be held responsible fot the ETF. Its something about service manipulation.... Ive talked to a guy (again Im a cust care rep in AZ) who had the LG 8000 and got caught using the EVDO network on his phone for modem. They warned him once an the second time they just disconnected his service with no possibility of reconnect.

Not a thread, just a friendly warning...

Yeah... how? That's just ridiculous. They just want more $$$ for an EVDO CardBus card for the laptop. The way I see it, I can access the Mobile web off the phone and bring up any URL I want. So... 1) how would they know I'm using a laptop and not the phone and 2) VCast legitimately gives you unlimited KB and one of the benefits touted by VZW for having VCast is to let you use Mobile Web unlimitedly (I yanked down about 2GB total last month, for example)... *without* a laptop. So I can't see why they're pissy about us simply changing the interface with which we utilize the service we're paying $15/mo to access!

I'm definitely not buying a card and signing another 2-year.

I talked to a rep and she said you can add an access plan but didn't know how much the plans were. 😕

Is a hack required for this to work, or does it work by using the settings listed in the previous reply?
I heard that the new update stops this from working, id that true? If so, will you not get the update and forego the mp3 player?
