I have been anxiously awaiting the software update, but it hasn't reached my area yet. They say possibly next week. The more I read on here, though, I'm wondering if I even want it now. Yes, I'd love to use the MP3 player like it's supposed to be used, but it sounds as if many of you have had problems after the update that you didn't have before. What do you suggest I do??????????????????
...
Really it's all up to you, if you are having any problems with the pictures becoming ?, whiting out, volume issues then due it because it fixes that but if you are doing it strictly for the MP3 player and you don't have an SD card, I would say hold off until A) you get an SD card or B) you start having one of the problems that the software fixes
...
I have NONE of the problems others have had (knock on wood), but I do have an SD card.
...
Not sure if I should risk it, but I want to use my MP3 player the way it should be used. What should I do?
...
Its maybe 30 people who have been on this site saying they have had issues w/ their phone thats not bad considering the tens of thousands of these phones in circulation. Compare that to something like the recent announcement of GM recalling 800K vehicles. I am quite sure that no cell phone exists in which there is 100% customer satisfaction. The fact is so long as you like the phone that really is all that matters. I'd say get the update and experience the full potential of the phone.
...
Do it. The volume is better, and you get an Mp3 player now. You have people out there paying over $50 for a standalone mp3 player. Like the 512mb ipod shuffle is over $80! To not get the update would be unfortunate.
...
The Upgrade has made this one of verizon best phones,it is just to bad they couldn't get right from the start.
...
It enables the mp3 player fully....controls work both inside and out!! Isn't that enough to justify it!
...
Yeah, that's old news. Have gotten it about a week ago and love it.

If you use your phone for EVDO DUN, dont get it.
v.04 diables EVDO DUN. 1x is all youll have.
On the plus side though you get a free MP3 player! 😉
...
You will still get EVDO, if you have it in your area.

No, you dont
...
EVDO is high speed data. They put this phone out as mostly as an EVDO handset! DUN is a hack that people use and now they can't with the update. AGAIN, if EVDO is available in your area, this phone, with or without the update will have EVDO unless you have gone in and turned it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...
I originally started the thread on August 30, and since have gotten the update-about a week ago-and am very happy with it.

nope, not for DUN.
If you have the v.04 upgrade, tell me how you can use the phone as an EVDO modem (not 1x) for your laptop or PDA and ill be very grateful.
But I dont think its possible.

PS: I pay the 80$ a month for Wireless Broadband, I just want it to work legally. But even as a paying customer I can t use the v.04 8100 as a DUN EVDO modem.
...
I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were referring to using it as a modem. I thought you just meant that after the update you wouldn't have EVDO period, for VCAST or anything.
...
Can you e-mail me on how you can use this phone with bluetooth from your computer for 1x data?? Please!!!

Mary, Mary, Mary,
Get it.
I have had zero complaints since the update--and none of the "problems" others mention. My husband dropped his old phone 3 weeks ago and replaced it with an 8100 (yes, how tacky--now we are a 2 8100 household 🤣 🤣 🤣 ) The day after his phone arrived, he had it updated to vo4 as well, and his story is the same as mine: works even better--longer battery life between charges, ability to turn off the lights. He doesn't use the Mp3, but I do, and the updated is just incredible--can turn it on with the front buttons, scroll through my songs, and so forth.
My vote is that you should go for it!
...
Just get the damn thing.
