Warranty issues with accessories

I just got home from my local VZW store (they are going to know me by first name pretty soon) because of an issue with my headset. I purchased it at the VZW store on 8/12/05 and about i noticed that i was starting to get some static with it. Looking closer I discovered the rubber casing was coming apart near where the wires attach to the jack and you can see the wires. When taking it to the store i was told i would just have to purchase a new one. After calling Customer Service I was told that they could not determine whether it was a manufacture problem or if i did it by possibly pulling the cord too hard to remove it from the phone...only problem with that is the jack is a L shape...so i cant pull it out the way. Take it to annother near by VZW store if the one closest to you won't provide what your after. Some of their stuff has a life time warranty, and the rest has a 1yr. In both scenarios, they're usually pretty leniant. Aslong as it's not blatant abuse, I've had no issues.
