Okay I have been reading this forum for months. Got my 8100 on 8/30 got the update right away. It took them 1.5 hrs and drained my battery in the process.
Now for the Headsets I have tried and tested.
Based on what I read here I ordered the Cardo 500 (got it at Amazon $39) while awaiting for it I got a deal at Verizon and spoke to the rep there that was using the HS850 with a 8100. He said ti was great so I got one to try.($99) Then Mary suggested the Moto H500 and I saw complainets that Cardo was losing connection after update. So I ordered the H500 (Ebay malcom Wireless $43).
SO I was able to do side by side test of all three last night at home and today in the car.
Here is my results and opinion. Thank it for what it is worth.
I as...

thanks for the update on these headsets as i was torn between the two but was always leaning toward the scala 500. I just liked the look of the moto better. I dont care about the look as much as performance though and with the amazon.com card, i just purchased my scala 500 for a total price of $9.99 out of my pocket!

My Scala worked great till update, then wouldn't stay connected. VZW, 3 phones because of this. Unlike HS850, which reconnected automatically, had to keep tapping the MFB. I was told by Cardo the phone searches for a BT device, thus concluding the Scala must put out a weak signal. The answer from Cardo was to tap MFB to reconnect. Told them every other headset connected and reconnected automatically and they seemed to blow me off. Anyway, I made them send me a new one, but haven't received it yet. Does yours connect or reconnect automatically? Walk away so it disconnects, then back and see if it reconnects automatically. Let me know please, I'd appreciate it. 🙄 🙄 🙄

Ok ran the test. Found out With my phone in the middle of my house I had to take a walk about 25ft from the far side to loose the connection. Total range about 65ft. Then it appears I had to get within about 25ft hit the Call button and it reconnected no problem. So it did reconnect automatically, it did take a maybe 5-10 seconds within 25ft but it did connect.

For me this is not an issue as I am usually near my phone when I wear the headset. Thanks for the additional info though.

Did you agree with my assessment of the others or 850? The 850 was pretty good but the additional cost and the fit of the Cardo plus a slight advantage in sound on the other end made me go with it. I did like the 850 boom as the on off switch though. Maybe t...

Yes, I agree with you. The 850 expensive, but 'solid' all around. I love the Cardo, but half the time it would NEVER reconnect and had to do it manually. I could live with even 20 seconds, as long as it did it. "Sometimes" doesn't help. After updating, it would disconnect on a random basis, 5 bars or 2 bars. I could stand in one spot for 10 minutes, fine - turn around 360? and it would disconnect. Changed phone twice because of this - same thing. Last time, didn't update for 4 days and it was fine. As soon as I updated, it happened again. Very weird.

Yes I agree very weird. I got the update before I ever paired and have not seen that issue. I often drive with headset and have not noticed any lost connections. I cannot image why unless it is something in your area causing some kind of interference. Good Luck.

Just saw H700. Same as 850, but 30% smaller. Claims better sound and 'no echo'. Can't understand why the Moto headsets have a delay on incoming calls. Even the e815. Don't know if the 850 is Class 2 bluetooth. I believe that means better connection. 🙄 🙄

Got my Scala 500 yesterday, charged it up for about 4 hours as recommended. Paired it. Goto use it and i got ALOT of static, so i did some testing, with the phone pointed right at it 3 inches from it, no static. Cover the phone up in a pocket and static galore. Put the phone on other side of my head and static. Almost like the phone is not putting out enough power to link good to the headset.

This is the latest scala500 headset as well, it has the new charge port on it which from what i saw before is a lot better.

Anyways, anyone know about the static issue like im having? BT does not run off your reception of the service so it should connect just fine for the phone with no static, but even when i am not in a call and i hit the ...

I had read so much on here awhile back about how great the Scala was so I ordered one. Same problem. It was absolutely awful. Not just static but BAD static and sound cutting out. I could hardly even hear the "say a command" it was soooooooooooooo bad. I've tried a lot of headsets on the same phone as I wanted to try to find the one I liked the best and the others worked fine, so it WAS the headset, not the phone. It absolutely sucked. There was a lot of praise on here about it, but can't figure out why. Worst headset EVER!

Maybe you got a bad unit. I never had ONE bit of static. Even holding phone in my hand. Occasional echo with 1 person in NY, but that's all. It seems everybody has different results with same units. I have tried 5 different headsets, got that echo with all, (as well as the phone itself) but NEVER had static with any of them. All clear on both ends. Location? Amount of towers? I am all over NJ and NY. Even with 1 bar they were all clear.

Anyone had the issue with the scala500 sound like it has constant windnoise? The headset static went away when i started driving away from my house but it sound like i had my head sticking out my window doing 70 down a highway is what they said. I even put my windows up and same thing. I even pulled over and stoped and had no noise what so ever and still had the issue with the wind noise. It was really bad and not just one person, everyone i talked to around the USA and im in TN.

No static, no noise. Usually use phone with window at least 3/4 way up. Mine wouldn't stay connected after update.

Mine was HORRIBLE. Wasn't even able to make a call because after I paired and attempted (several times) to try it, the static was so bad and the "say a command" words were so broken-up. Tried re-pairing several times to no avail. Horrible headset, IMO. Others on here have really praised it, though, so I don't know. They either have a LOT of bad units out there and some are just lucky to get a good one, or you have to use it in only 1 city in the entire US for it to work. Don't know?????????
