Can the 8100 be set to vibrate first then ring like the old 4400?? That is a great feature!! I miss it. Thanks.

Yes. Go to menu, settings & tools, sounds, call sounds, call vibrate, then choose yes. Then it will vibrate then ring. If you want vibrate only, press and hold the * key for a few seconds to put it in vibrate mode.

Mary,
That gets me to where I was. The phone will vibrate AND ring at the same time. I was looking for it to vibrate first for a few seconds then ring. Did I miss something? Sorry if I did and thank you.

I'm sorry. I read through that too quickly. I thought you were just looking for vib w/ ring. I don't believe this phone will vibrate THEN ring, unless I'm missing something else.

Mary424,
Okay strike one! How about this then? What is EVDO? Does it use battery power and how can I turn it off? I live in an area that is on the boarder of the service and I think my phone looks for it all day. Sometimes it says EV but most times it does not. Any idea? Thanks.

Sorry for the off topic.

This was asked in another thread, but replying to that thread would have been off topic saw I thought I would post it as a new topic

Question 1 was what does EVDO stabd for?

EVDO stands for "Evolution Data Only"

Question 2 was how do I turn off EV?

Be careful changing options in the service menu. Changing an option that you don't understand can really screw up your phone.

hit menu then hit 0 (zero) it will then ask you for a service code password. Input 000000 (six zeros)and you will come to the service menu. Go to option 3 network select and then option 1 mode preference and select the last option of 1x only. Hit end and the EV icon should be gone.

Thank you. If I stay on 1X only will that affect my phone coverage? I see that one options is "Digital Only Hybrid" What is that? Thanks.

As you've heard, no you cannot do this with this phone. I miss the "vibrate and then a little bit later ring" behavior that Motorola, Samsung, etc. have.

So what I've done is modified each of my ring tones so that they have an empty few seconds at the beginning of them, and this produces the desired effect. I have the Datapilot software (costs money) that lets me download, upload, and edit ringtones. I don't know if bitpim will let you do the same.

Mikey,
That sounds interesting. I wish I had some clue how to do all that. Sorry. I'm a real newbe. I have read about bitpim but I have no idea what it is.
