I don't understand why I can't use the volume keys to change the ring settings when the phone is closed. I mean, wouldn't that seem logical?! Why am I forced to open up the phone to change from vibrate to ring, ring to silent, etc.? What's the point of buttons that don't do anything in any given state?
I guess Motorola's the only company that "gets it".

Yes lets make thinly veiled attempts to start a LG vs. Moto flame war.
There are good points about both the 8100 and 815, I really think both are good phones. Maybe if you are lucky a future software update will allow the adjustments you want, but I doubt that would really make you happy.
...
Oh, I hate to disagree, but if LG actually made it so the volume keys function when the phone is closed, it would make me happy beyond my wildest dreams! I'm not comparing specific phones here. Just trying to understand LG's reasoning behind not making this phone as user-friendly as possible.

Why would you want the phone to possibly change volume while it's in your pocket? How is that helpful? Do you really not have time to open the phone, change the volume, and close it?
...
I have worked at Verizon for two years now and I'd say about 10% of customers problems are caused by accidental hitting of button while the phone is in their pocket or purse. "My phone doesn't ring anymore!!!" Yeah because you have it in manner mode. "How did I do that?" READ YOUR MANUAL. I don't like it personally but I have fallen victim to this as well. This ingenious removal of button function while the phone is closed eliminates this problem.

Why is it that everyone seems to complain about well, everything. I don't understand it, are you perfect?
...
No Sh*%! There are worse things to worry about. If that's all I had to worry about then I'd be doing pretty good! You'd have to be extremely lazy to complain about having to open your phone for a function that you may only change once in a great while! And yes, a lot of people complain with other models about accidentally changing the ring style when their phone is in ther pocket, so I'd say they did this on purpose to avoid that from happening! It's a GOOD things, so get over it demkid.

good point
i HATED accidentally hitting the side button twice to reject a call in my VX6000
i do not like side buttons to change important things like ring modes

My dad has about 20 pictures of his CLC case because of the button on the side of his 8910. He has sent 1 picture ever and I think it's the only time he's ever used the camera on purpose.
I had no input on the purchase of the 8910 by the way. Friends don't let friends buy 8910s.

crap i even talk customers out of getting that one!

I wouldn't mind having a button outside the phone for that feature, but it's not a big deal that I have to open it do the same thing. I used to have the Moto V60 and I could change the ring setting from the outside, but I had to press 2 buttons. I had to sit there and press one button, then another button to scroll between loud ring, soft ring, vibe, vibe & ring, and then go back to the first button. Plus it would make a noise when I hit the first button which I didn't like. I don't know if the 815 is set up the same way. But I have gotten so used to just flipping open the phone and pressing a button it's become second nature. So between flipping open and pressing one button on the LG, or pressing 3 buttons on the outside on the Moto.....

I hate it too. My finger gets so tired after having to open the phone to put it on vibrate.

Well, in that case, it's time for you to retire.. better yet, it's time for you to be put out to pasture!! 🤣 🤣
...
Just too bad Motorola can't "get it" when it comes to making reliable charging ports

If this phone (or any phone for that matter)... could read your mind, figure out what time you wanted to get up, set the alarm, gently awaken you, brush your teeth, wash your face, wipe your @ss, get you dressed, make your breakfast, feed you, open your door to your car, start the car, drive you to work, drop you off at the entrance, go park your car, re-fill the gas tank while you are working, pick you back up at the door when your off, drive you home, unlock your front door, bring your slippers, make dinner, shower you and tuck you into bed...someone would start a thread saying "It made broccoli for dinner instead of corn!!!! I am trading it for the (insert phone model here)".
My point? There are legitimate issues with phones. Comp...

I am for one glad this phone does not have this feature. I do not find it an inconvenience in the slightest to have to have to open the phone. That way, I know that when I put it on a volume it will stay that way.
