Instant Messaging and TXT Messaging Usage...

In my playing around with my phone last night I went into the MSN Messenger portion. All I did was look at what it was, etc. At no point did I sent an instant message to a contact or do anything other than look. Now today, looking at my account summary I noticed I had 18 TXT messages sent and 32 received. 😲 One or two of these are legitimate messages. The others I'm assuming come from my playing around since I believe that the IM service works by TXT messaging. So my question for all the good people of PhoneScoop is this: By just playing around, will it cost me for all these text messages. If so then then that is totally bunk! I repeat I did NOT send any IM's. If so then this is an expensive lesson for just playing around. Can anyone who h...

How do you think it logged you into the service? Magic? It takes 1 sent message for you to request to log in, 1 recv'd for it to tell you you're logged in, and X more to populate your contact list depending on how many people are on there. Multiply by as many of the services you tried. It clearly states that it uses txt messages to be on there. Avoid the large per use charge and request a 100 message package for this month only, it'll cost a whopping $2.99 to save you $5 so far.

I have had the same issue. They say I used 600+ test messages last month. My bill was enormous. I called verizon and aol. I believe it is an issue with the IM. The best I can figure is because my phone was registered in that app. on my mobile, that when I went on the computer it was registering all of my chats as text messages. Verizon is suppose to send me a print out from the technical dept so I can look it over. You might want to call them and ask for the MARS print out. I would have had to sent 20 text a day on my phone which is impossible. I drive for a living delivering parts. You make the call. 👿

I have no problem using one or two TXT messages to login in/download contacts/etc. However, the amount that I used seemed really excessive for the simple looking that I did. I was just wondering if this was typical of using the IM service on my phone. If it is, then I guess I will just take it as a lesson learned and suck it up. If it's not though, then I would like to figure out what is going on. I'll look into both suggestions presented and get to the bottom of this somehow. Thanks for the help such far. It's gotten me farther than I could get on my own. 🙂
