I think they should erase the reviews and let us start over with reviews rating it after the update. I love this phone!!!! I think the 3.whatever score it has on the reviews is bugos, especially after the update! Does anyone else think this phone is probably the nicest phone they have ever used! I get new phones every few months and this is my favorite of all time, my next one will be the 9800.

I totally agree. After the update it's amazing. Especially after I put my 1GB card in it. I have around a dozen 3GP shows on there now plus about 120 MP3s with room to spare for my own videos or saving VCast content if I feel like it... or voice memos... or whatever. People are amazed by the quality of the video and even the speakers in 3D Surround Mode...
Beyond that the phone is solid and stable, almost too loud IMO... and has ample built-in memory to have picture IDs for all my friends and more. It's great. I can't think of anything more I could want other than the ability to make my MP3s into Rings w/o Bitpim... but that's not too bad. And as much as I'd like EVDO DUN for free, I can understand them locking that down further.

There's a 121 mp3 file ceiling?! Seriously? Can someone verify this?

It's been known (if you've read the forums since the beginning) that there's a limit to how many things can be shoved on the card. I actually forgot about it and ran into it when copying over stuff via my card reader. I had about 800MB of stuff to push over and it just stopped with an error that it couldn't create any more files. It turned out to be right at that mark. I wouldn't blame the card. It's likely a FAT limitation since these things run on simply FAT16 I think... although FAT16 has a limit of 512 files per folder... and long file names (beyond 8.3) shrinks that even further.
If you figure out a way around it, I'd sure like to know 🙂 I doubt reformatting the card in FAT32 or NTFS would be wise 🙂
...
So then, what's the advantage of having a 1GB card vs. a 512MB if you're limited to the number of mp3s you can store?

This phone is a multimedia wonder... not just an MP3 player. I've got a half dozen Seinfelds (from here), a few other shows, and even a quick porn to show I could do it 🙂 The point is... you've got more than just the "MY_MP3" folder to fill. You've got the FLIX too! Hence why I'd still like to get a 2GB card honestly... for higher bit-rate MP3s and a few full-length movies! I won't need to break out the laptop on planes anymore. Just need to make sure there's enough power 🙂

I grabbed a bunch here but the rest I've been making myself. I found that the SUPER program worked well but that my @#*(& QT Pro isn't worth s*it for making 3GPs out of the mostly WMVs and AVIs that I have done in DivX compression (currently the best quality out there). I even was playing with changing the stuff to straight AVIs but things were getting too big and I stopped. I can't even convert the couple of MPG1s I have since stupid QT can't split out the audio track and you're left with a 3GP with no sound. It's aggrevating. So... I'm still looking for good freeware to do this stuff directly... as SUPER is supposed to do... but doesn't seem to work for certain input file types...
...
I seriously don't think that this topic has been discussed at length. I searched through previous posts on here and didn't find anything that talked about there being a limit to the number of MP3s you can have on your phone.
I have a feeling that most people just havent discovered this limit yet.

i can't say for sure if there is a limit... all i know is that i have over 200 mp3s on my 1gig card and growing...
btw, if you have more than 47 chars (including .mp3) in your song title, it will NOT show up on your phone...
...
Well if you have over 200 mp3s on your card, this disputes LG-CJ's claim that there's a 121 file limit for the my_mp3 folder. I hope your version is the correct one! 😁

I have nearly all rich/long filenames with the full names of stuff... so I wonder. Windows Explorer essentially just stopped letting me copy around that limit. That's all I know at this point. Grab a glob and start copying things over. Maybe it was that I was (initially) putting them in the root of the minisd and there are some limits I've read for stuff in the root that may not exist for the folder... Hmmm...
Still looking for freeware to create some 3GPs too. Any more info on that?

If the phone would have came with the update when it was first released it would be a 4.5 overall. Of course you would have your haters and people that live in valleys and canyons that would say "no reception" but for the most part this phone would have a much higher overall user review rating.

Agreed... and for those that have no reception issues... dunno about that. It's better than my old TDMA phone in most places... and considering TDMA still has the most support in the country (combined with analog rollback ability) I think that's a big deal. Seems to penetrate walls better at work and works in the stairwells where TDMA would not... so frequency tunneling is good. I even have full EVDO browsing ability in my building.
The only phones with better CDMA reception on here seem to be the ones with higher radiation levels and my goal is to avoid a brain tumor if at all possible by not hopping to those phones 🙂
