How to default to T9 Text on SMS

Does anyone know how to change configurations on the phone so that when you are typing a message (sms) T9Text will be the default not 'Abc'. thanks.

Menu --> Messaging --> Settings (left soft key) --> Entry Mode (#7) --> T9Word

Actually I just re-read what you wrote and realized you typed SMS. I do not know how to do this...
