Hosed my flixs in Bitpim... help

tsisga

There is a video clip in the my flix folder that I can't erase.

I erased it in Bitpim and an error happened and the file was not erased, then afterward I tried to erase it in my phone and I get a "Remove error" and the thing is still there.

I try to play the file and it is just a blank screen, no sound. Just a blank white screen.

Now the file doesn't even show up in Bitpim but is still on my phone.

What led to this was my fiddling with putting mp3s in the my flix folder in the Brew directory using Bitpim (since I haven't bought a mini sd card yet), and something happened when I was adding and deleting mp3s, and this video file giving me the problem now isn't erasing properly.

What can I do?

Or is my phone cashed?

The reason this happened is, first of all, you CANNOT put MP3's on your phone's memory (using BITPIM or any other method), only on a card, . AND you need to always delete stuff on your phone from your phone, not from BITPIM. That is why this happened. Did you go into the file system on BITPIM to do any of this? I ask because you never want to mess with that. You can really screw up your phone!
The only thing I can suggest you try is a hard reset. To do this, remove your battery while your phone is on, then put it back in and turn your phone back on. See if that does anything.

yeah I totally screwed it up.

I used Bitpim to add mp3s directly to my phone's memory, and I tried to manipulate the files using my file system and not the phone.

In regards to a hard reset, yes I have done that. Several times.

So would it help if I delete all the mp3s from the phones memory (using bitpim) and then do a reset again?

If there is any hope?

If I were you, I'd probably try just about anything at this point, so it couldn't hurt. I hope there is hope for ya, but it doesn't sound very good. At least if you buy another, you'll know not to go there again!

well, that didn't work.

Hopefully that is the only thing I screwed up because I can live with a file hanging there that can't be deleted.

Maybe it's time I break down and buy a memory card.

It was kind of a pain to listen to music anyway. I had to go in through the service menu.

Oh well. I guess all the warnings about cooking this phone through the filesystem are true.

Neato.

Yeah, I'd say you better run out right now and get yourself one! So, besides that, the phone still works? I'd say if so, then your pretty lucky.

Everything else on the phone works perfectly, can still record flix, still take pics, make calls, send texts etc etc.

I'll just go without music for a few months- I was getting sick of all my stuff anyway.

Thanks for your help so far.

Was it bad to go in through the service menu to listen to Mp3s?

menu
0
000000
Get it now settings
Get it now
media player
play file
16452/mf
[filename.mp3]

Bad idea or *really* bad idea?

Same thing happened to me but it was with some pictures that were leaving a blank file on my phone. Try going into bitpim file system then to dload and then erase fliximage.dat and fliximagesize.dat these files will restore themselves after you reboot your phone. this worked for me hopefully it will work for you too.

Are you sure this isn't going to completely destroy my phone?

The files will restore themselves?

Will that erase everything in my Flix folder then, or what? If so I know to move all those files off my phone before I try this.

that should fix your problem with the file still showing but being deleted off the phone. It is probably still in the list inside the fliximage.dat and fliximagesize.dat files. If you delete them and then reboot your phone, it will automatically restore them, and the file should be gone.

As far as adding MP3s into the phone, it can be easily done with bitpim, and does not damage the phone at all. It IS designed to be capable of playing MP3s for ringtones, or as a MP3 player.

Yes, but the MP3's have to go on the card, NOT ON THE PHONE'S MEMORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Using the file system can totally destroy your phone unless you are an electronics expert and really know what you are doing.

That didn't help remove the file from the phone, it's still there- in the phone only.

It never shows up in Bitpim.

I added them in bitpim the following way:

Bitpim 0.7.36

filesystem
brew
16452
mf

then added the mp3's to the "mf" folder

can't remember if I mentioned that before.
